Samsara: I'll give psxjin a shot, but I might unclaim this if I can't get it to work.
Samsara: PSXJin was surprisingly painless. Accepting as an improvement to the published run.
Note to publishers: This uses the same BIOS as the published run, SCPH1000.

Since people are going to ask: This is actually a ~12 second improvement to the published run. This movie's framecount: 98476 Published run's framecount: 99181 The published run's real time should be 27:52.73.

For those wondering why this movie seems slower than the current publication: The site assumed 60 FPS for PSX in the past. Nowadays, it assumes a framerate of 59.2928625619555 FPS for PSX NTSC. This run is faster than the currently published movie by 705 frames, or ~11.75 seconds (assuming 60 FPS).

Giving it a Meh. Even though this has already been published before, I don't think it's different enough from just regular Mega Man 2.
effort on the first draft means less effort on any draft thereafter - some loser

It didn't feel right that this had a slower time than the published version of this run.

The old publication assumed 60 FPS as mentioned above, so it's "faster". The judges won't hold that against you since else it would be impossible to obsolete.

We know your time is faster, the time can be fixed for this TAS by a moderator due to you using psxjin.

Encode. Wait for it to process. Edit: Link to encode deleted because of unacceptable quality even at the level of a temp encode.

It's a pretty nice "category" of Mega Man 2 that shows more of the game than usual, and the instant weapon switching is cool. Clever tactics with the various Items too. I was at least moderately entertained by the run, so I'll give it a yes vote.

Hey paosidufygth, I probably have a unique vantage point of this TAS as I have a lot of experience speedrunning, routing, and (theory) TASing Rockman 2. That said, I found this TAS incredibly entertaining and unusually clever. There are so many cool tricks and entertaining details that are enabled from instant weapon switching + the lack of normal zipping techniques. Examples include using all but one crash bomb on the enemies in the Wood Man stage and then using the final one on Wood Man himself at the start of the fight, as well as the Atomic Fire at the start of Wily Dragon fight enabling a double KO. The highlight for me was undoubtedly the first two spike-floor screens after the checkpoint in Wily 4. I think it's a very good thing that there are still some minor zips/screen wraps, as they add to the variety and keep things relatively fast-paced. All the tiny 1-tile zips in the Wood Man stage were a treat to watch. I wouldn't go so far as to say this TAS surpasses the NES one in entertainment, but it stands quite well on its own. Although I did enjoy the first publication of this category, I don't remember finding it quite as fun to watch as I did this time. Along with your contributions to Mega Man 4 & 5, you are doing some seriously amazing work on the classic Mega Man series paosidufygth. Keep it up, and thanks again for this great TAS.

Unfortunately, I only realized just now how awful my encode was (it was intended to be low-quality, but not that bad). To make up for it, I will post a 720p60 version, which is uploading now. Here is a ~60fps downloadable in the meantime: Mediafire download (~67MB): https://www.mediafire.com/?aj0s3lh24uw373c Edit: Youtube 720p60 encode, when it's processed (~4-5 hours from now): Link to video

This is a good TAS. I and the others working on the various Rockman 2 NES TASes have stolen a couple of little optimizations from you! The Item 3 jump before the big disappearing block section in Heat comes to mind. That said, I would like to propose a different route to you. I'm working on a zipless TAS for the NES version (it's a self-imposed restriction rather than a bugfix), and this is the route I'm using: QMBFHACW Compared to your route: My Quick fight is slower, but my Flash fight is faster. They cancel out exactly. My Quick, Metal, and Bubble stages are slower because I don't have Item 2 or Time Stopper. But, my Heat fight is way way faster with the Bubble Lead. My route should be faster by about 2 or 3 seconds. I have no idea how the instant switching affects any of this. I assume both routes would benefit roughly equally from it? Just wanted to post it here. I was also considering: QBFHAMCW AQMBHFCW (the realtime route) Here's a nifty comparison of the 3.
