That was a totally awesome run, man. Sweet job on it. Though I do wonder, do you actually have to go into the building in Ankor Wat before you get the glasses? I'd assume it'd have been quicker to just get them before you went in. And I gotta make sure I don't watch the ending again. I'm an emotional pansy. >_<

Of course I had to go in. First of all, there's no path outside that'd allow me to NOT enter that room to go take the glasses. Second, I had to change to Will anyways, so I figured I would benefit this. I had to go up a floor, then jump down to get Will. At that moment, I was closer to the glasses. In fact, I used the fact that I had to change to Will to stay "closer" to my path.

I have start a run through the Secret Stage only. Missing only the Boss now. My first version was 2:18 minutes. Now I have perfected it much more, now the time is 1:55 without the Boss yet. Here the Link. Illusion of Gaia - Secret Stage (Boss missing yet) Maybe I am the only one, who is interested on this run, but when someone else like it, tell me what do you think.

It's a fair idea but... the guidelines say that any movie (That is, if you want it published here) has to begin from reset. I can't watch the movie since I've never gotten to the secret stage IRL and I don't wanna spoil it

I know, but maybe as Bonus Add for the complete run. ;) Only an idea, because I think some games have interesting Side Quests, which you will never see here, because for Speedrunning they to long. But I think its interesting maybe someone, that there should be a special Section for those movies, or as add for the complete runs. If not, I will finish this movie maybe later at all, then I put it on my little Website.

... I don't think it would be interesting ... That would bring some kind of competition for only those secret stages, and it would only make it more complicated for Bisqwit and the encoders. You can complete that secret stage if you want, but I don't want that to be added in the SNES section under my movie ...

Matty, why don't you start from the beginning and get all the jewels? Now that would be interesting, though a little tedious in places. Hey, anyone who can watch the full 1-hour+ run probably won't mind an extra 20-30 mins to see all the jewels collected. Good luck!

If people would be interested in a 100% run of Illusion of Gaia, then I would do it ... 100% would mean collecting all Red Jewels and all items (herbs, flute songs, etc...) and would also mean getting 100% of the HP bar (in the any% run, I missed 3 HP at the end). 100% would also mean doing the secret dungeon. 100% would NOT mean killing all the enemies everywhere. Why? Because when you kill a boss, you get all the upgrades you missed before that boss. If you would be interested, I would do it ... that would be something for me to do... Are you guys interested in this?

Yes, yes! Oh lord, yes! That would be really cool. I've only ever seen the secret dungeon once... way back in the day. Now it seems that the game hates me. Every time I attempt a 100% run something always makes me lose the ambition to finish it. Usually in the form of a power outage killing 6 hours of game time (I tend not to save often). Thats happened at least 8 times now... rainy days make me wanna play the game. Not sure why.

I would like too see a 100% run. So when you will do it it would be great. Because I need much more practice in Speedrunning for such a big project. Only the Secret Stage is no big problem (only the Boss is hard). But I think you have much more practice and know much more tricks after beat the game once. And I have played it for years the last time. So I would like too see it too.

So be it. I will start working on Illusion of Gaia (U) [!] 100% TAS as soon as I have time for it. Hope you guys will like it. I will do as I always did: post updates after big places (bosses or big dungeons) to get feedback, read feedback, correct a few things, and then go on. This is the begginning of a huge project, and I already see the first problem: getting the third red jewel (the fisherman).

Read back in the topic: there is a way to get the jewel to appear on the first try using luck manipulation. Have fun with that, I know you LOVE manipulating gaming code.

I know I'm reviving an old thread, but I came across the new version of Snes9x, once again updated by the Mighty Nitsuja. This time, he incorporated Memory Watching ... As you all probably know, the only reason Illusion of Gaia 100% isn't done yet is because of the damn fisherman which holds the third red jewel. But now, thanks to Memory Watching, I could get to manipulate him in a better way, if only I knew "his address". Therefore, I'm asking you guys for help. I'm not the best at finding memory locations, and I know some of you can do it in a matter of minutes. I'm asking any of you if you could find me the memory location which defines where the fisherman is. He has 3 different positions. If I could get that information, then I could finally get started with this project. The finder of the memory address will receive a Wookie Life-Debt from me, but since I'm not a Wookie I'll simply put your name in the "Thanks to" list at the bottom of the description of the TAS.

So those 16 bytes in memory are really the random values used (and work all together, they change all together too), now we'll have to find how exactly they determine the fisher's position, and how they change with each randomization (to predict when a good set will come).
Is this what you're looking for?

This must be a bad red jewel. I remeber in the past as I play it I got it without problems. Just go in the Cave and out till he sit there. But my mother miss this one and can't reach the Secret Stage. Hope to hear some updates soon. Good luck for a perfect luck manipulation.

I've (already) got an update about that third red jewel. Using the miraculously great Memory Watching of Snes9x (can't thank you enough, Nitsuja!), I've come up with some results / ideas. I have investigated on what Acmlm has suggested, which is that the values from $7E0410 to $7E041F hold the key to the fisherman's position. The big news is, I have found a way to "manipulate" this. First of, $7E041F acts as a counter, which increments by 1 every few frames. The amount of frames between each increment varies, and there's no way to find out how much frames there are gonna be in the next "window of opportunity". The test results from Acmlm showed that if you entered a room when the "counter" was at 52, at the time you exit the building, the fisherman is going to be at the "jewel position". This is great. I mean, I now know how to "manipulate" the fisherman to the jewel position. I only need to enter the secret cave when $7E041F = 52. Simple, huh? Yes it is. Bad news is, it's a long long time to wait before the counter reaches 52. Good news is, I found a house where the counter goes up by 1 when you enter, and goes up by 5 when you exit. Therefore, I'm going to use that house to "manipulate" the counter into going up faster than normal, and then rush to the cave to enter at 52. That, or something else. Anyways, you'll see in my first official WIP for the 100% Illusion of Gaia TAS. It's coming guys ... it's coming ... Progress has been made, and there are no more obstacles in my way for completing this TAS. I'll keep you posted, and will of course post WIPs the same way I posted WIPs of the any% TAS. I estimate a first WIP in the next 2 to 3 days, if not tonight.

So are the goals of this run to get all the Red Jewels and defeat Solid Arm? Anything else? Beat all enemies and get all upgrades maybe? Or are you just going for the jewels? Good luck anyway. IoG is a great game and I look forward to the 100% run.

The goals for this 100% run will be as follows: 1) No damage. 2) Get all red jewels. 3) Get all upgrades. 4) Defeat Solid-Arm. 5) Get all items (herbs, wind melody, etc.). 6) Get all special powers (I skipped Aura Barrier in the any%). I may be missing other points that I don't think of right now, but since I've played this game 100% for years when I was young, I won't forget anything while I play. Basically, I just have to do the same thing I did when I was a kid. Points 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are pretty self-descriptive. However, point 3 is a little more complicated. Remember how I discovered that when you defeat bosses, you gain all the enemy-gained upgrades that you could have gotten on your way to that boss? Well, it's not going to change in this run. I'm still taking the same strategy. All I have to do is to go and get the other upgrade (3 HP upgrades, and some other upgrades given by Gem the Jeweler.) I know that there's one Defense Force boost from Gem, one Life Force boost from Gem, one HP Jewel in Freejia, one Strength increase from Gem, one Psycho Dash powerup from Gem, one Dark Friar powerup from Gem, one HP boost from life potion from the building in Euro, and finally one Dark Friar powerup from dark potion from the building in Euro (but it's useless since you get it from Gem anyway. I'm still going to take it though). So this is what I'm going to do. If I think of anything else that I forgot, I'll edit this post and add it. By the way, don't bother asking for a 100%-kill run. I'm not going to do it, since it's useless as you get the upgrades from the bosses.
