The Adventures of Bayou Billy is my early tas.And it is still a multi-mode game like Vice - Project Doom [3133] NES Vice: Project Doom by Sonikkustar, Alyosha in 12:30.23.This run is 3884 frames(about 64 seconds) faster than the previous published [988] NES The Adventures of Bayou Billy by Xipo in 17:14.10.At the beginning,I find the last Gemini BOSS will lost much HP if Billy has no equipment(no weapon and no clothes). Then I also find other improvement point, especially in stage2 and stage7.
Stage1:It is Fighting Mode.Improvement comes from details and better play.
Stage2:It is Shooter Mode. Please don't think it is automatic scroll. The scroll moves with counter $005F.Counter $005F add 1 after shoting one enemy. And enemy's appearance follows the 64 frames rules. So Heavy Manipulates luck plays a
crucial role.
Stage3:It is Fighting Mode. It's describe is same as Stage1.Stage4 and Stage5 are Racing Mode,I won't explore it in this article.
Stage6:It is Fighting Mode. There are two glitchs in this stage. We can make the bad guy(on white) disappear if he stand outside the sceen. We can make the bad guy(on green) ignore our existence if Billy stays in special place.
Stage7:It is Shooter Mode. The Counter is also $005F,but the rules is not unchanged 64 frames. The rules is random.I'm lucky in that I find $0461 is the rules frames. Then it is Heavy Manipulates luck turn.
Stage8:It is Fighting Mode. It's describe is same as Stage1.
Stage9:It is Fighting Mode.I make Billy lost his equipment according to plan.

Some useful ram address

  • Enemy HP:$0511 $0512 $0513
  • Enemy sub HP:$0501 $0502 $0503
  • Counter:$005F
  • Scroll Sceen:$07C6
  • X position in Scroll Sceen:$0350
  • Rules Frames in Stage7:$0461

Samsara: Judging.
Samsara: Solid improvement, excellent work, and it's even more fun to watch. Accepting to Moons as an improvement to the published run.
Spikestuff: The other one accepted is an Arcade TAS so.... HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA. Publishing this one.

Not sure why this is listed as Famicom Disk System... EDIT: Looks like it's been updated now.

I think it's the result of converting an fcm to fm2. See: several of Alyosha's submissions that build on old movies.

The glitches to skip enemies were awesome, but the game itself was really boring. Had to watch at 400% speed for the second driving stage, then 200% speed in other places. The three genres of the game aren't very good TAS genres. Beat-em-up, driving game, and autoscrolling rail shooter don't lend themselves very well to a TAS. This is why vault tier exists, to hold records for those kind of games. Was there any good reason to always fire all but one shot in the shooter stages?

Nicely done. Yeah, the driving levels are a bit slow but it's still fun. I'll vote yes mostly because of the memories. The emulator entry needs to be changed though. The submission shows an older version of FCEU but the file is an fm2 and it runs fine on FCEUX 2.2.2.

Thanks for the encode, Samsara! I wanted to comment more on this movie earlier, but my new computer has been having more issues watching these movies in the emulator. The game is fairly entertaining for a beat-em-up game. I'm quite impressed that so much time was saved on the shooter parts. The fighting looks pretty smooth, where you beat the last enemies on a screen just in time for the screen to scroll again. Xipo, you show up in the submissions rarely these days, but they're always good runs! Wasn't Double Dragon 2 your last run before this one? (That game really needs an updated 2-player run.)
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. ( Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! ( Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.
