...a Megaman X6 run. Being possibly the hardest run for a Megaman game, I've come to realize that I'm craving to see the best playing this one. The others seem to be done in an hour or so, although this one may take quite a while. Don't you agree?

I would, but it's a playstation game. Making it not possible for now, and possibly always.

Isn't there an ISO file for it to emulate?

Well yes it's possible to PLAY the game, but these cd images are around the neighbourhood of 600-700MB. Making everyone who wants to view the timeattack need to speed alot of time downloading. Not everyone has that much time/bandwidth. It also would put ALOT of strain on the connection of encoders as they would need to get EVERY PSX game to keep up with the submissions. That is more space than any of them probably have. If you still don't think that is a good reason i'll give; There is also no emulator which supports rerecording and slowdowns. One could set a FPS cap in it to slow it down, but I don't even thing there is one with recording...

What would be hard about it? Grab Zero in some easy level that also provides a weapon that can kill Himax (like Grand Scarabich, so you can also pick up Speedster), then go into any other level with Zero and kill Himax, then go to Gate's Lab with Zero and win. Edit: Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. X5 can be done even faster. Edit 2:

Or.. um.. own the game. It shouldn't be more than $15 if you can find it.

ePSXe has one video codec that allows you to record data. If you simply set a lossless compression codec, it will slow the game down in order to save the data to your hard disk--rerecording is possible as well. I'm not sure what it was named, but check around on Zophar.

A Playstation time attack is entirely possible. The downside is ePSXe doesn't create small input-only files like an FMV or SMV. It records the entire game. Even a few minutes is a very large file.

I once recorded a small demo of Metal Gear Solid. I used Techsmith's codec to record it at the highest compression, which made the game about 10% of its original speed on my 3.0GHz HTT P4. The filesize was pretty decent then.

But isn't anyone interested in doing a speedrun of this game? But only if u feel really confident about the game. Like, I know a few games I can beat without even thinking.. But this game I think is one of the most difficult ones I've played.

Perhaps a speedrun would be more suitable.

It sure will. But it isn't as fun as a timeattack would be. But I don't think it's possible to make timeattacks at any PS console yet :/

If I get some free time I want to try X5 and X6 no-boss runs (well, okay, one boss in X6). I'm pretty sure that's the fastest way through both. And I'm also pretty sure that Grand Scarabich is the way to go in X6, because he's easy, has a short level, has Speedster, and has quick access to the alternate route for getting Zero and killing the big cow.

If you beat X6 in 20 minutes I'll be watching.

I was thinking of a Zero-Only run, and making up routes I'm not good at. Although, I would like opinions of this route I came up with (As well as suggestions): - Start With X (From Intro) - Shield Sheldon (Get Zero) Zero: - Rainy Turtloid - Metal Shark Player **Probably ONE Item ***Skip: Shield Sheldon Infinity Mijinion Blaze Heatnix Commander Yammark Blizzard Wolfang Ground Scaravich ****Damage taken for navigation.

This is a Zero-Only run. Anyway, I've redone my route again. Zero: Rain Turtle Metal Shark Player *********** Added. - I've removed Yammark because he's not really needed. - Rain Turtle added back due to it's necessity of destroying High Max's Square-Barrier when you face him in Gate's 2nd Lab. - Metal Shark Player needed in order to damage High Max. - Instead of going back to Shield Sheldon's stage the 2nd time, I've changed my route towards Infinity Mijinion's stage due to it's convenience. *****I am thinking of using only ONE item, which is FULL RECOVER. By the time I look for the right video recording program, I'll be able to record this first run of mine. Any comments?

First off, why didn't you post your plan at this topic on the SDA forum. Since there is only one rerecording emulator for playstation and it is impractical to record with, I am assuming this is a speed run, not a time attack. Why don't you go to Infinity Mijinion's stage to get Zero? IIRC it takes less than a minute to get him there. Rainy Turtloid is a good choice for a boss to kill. He has the best weapon IMO. You don't need Metal Shark Player's weapon to kill High Max. You just need any special weapon to stun him, meaning the ensuizan (Rainy Turtloid's weapon) will work fine. You might want to kill Metal Shark Player anyways for a good weapon against Dual Cells. Speaking of Dual Cells, what is your strategy against them? They are the hardest boss in the game IMO. You might want to make a detour and collect shock buffer (the half damage item found in Metal Shark Player's stage) and D. barrier (found taking the alternate route in Shield Sheldon's stage) I thought Full Recover can only be collected in Yammark's stage, but you bumped Yammark off your list. You could always use a VCR to record the run, then send it in to Radix or Nate for capturing. If you need more info, contact them. Contact and submission information is here.

Hi Mike. I was wondering what your next project will be if you feel you are satisfied (which indeed you should be with MMX4) with your current MMX4 run?

Hopefully, you've done that OmniSlash thing. (Where you keep repeatedly attacking)

Um, I think threads that haven't been replied to in over 2 years are usually dead.

I've completed a test run of the intro stage. Youtube and movie file. Now I'm wondering about route planning. Infinity Mijinion supposedly has the shortest route to the secondary boss room. I also apparently need to get a special weapon to beat High Max. Are any parts worth getting?

the man you're going to want to talk to about the route is 65 over at SDA. search this thread for some info. from what i remember, Mijinion does have the quickest route to the Nightmare Zero/High Max fights. the special weapons that would likely get the most mileage are Ensuizan and Guard Shell. the former because it can quickly damage High Max and an invulnerability trick. the latter because it amplifies damage done by the Z Saber, and by extension, Saber Dash Cancel. speaking of which, SDC works for X as well. that's one of the main things that needs to be done on the intro stage. the other would be possibly taking more damage before High Max. the intro stage would look more like this, even though this is on Normal.

Here is the first 8:40, everything that I've completed so far. It goes up to the middle of Rainy Turtloid's stage. Movie file. Here is what beating him would look like. EDIT: It turns out you can skip the cutscenes. This will be edited later.
