Hello, I use BizHawk 1.11.6 for regular speedrunning (not TAS) and I wanted to know which profile is recommended for that: there are "casual gaming" and "tool-assited speedrun" profiles, but not "speedrun". Is this option really matter? Same question about the BSNES core: which one should I use? The game I run is Donkey Kong Country 2. Thanks!

In the "Config" -> "Speed/Skip" menu, make sure to have only "Clock Throttle" enabled. "VSync Throttle" changes the emulation rate to match your refresh rate, which is inaccurate for speed run timing. Ideally, if you're doing this, you should have freesync/g-sync or have a CRT monitor set to the exact frame rate of the system you're playing or else you will experience bad input latency and frame drops.

DKC2 has a small bug on BizHawk: the music can be accelerated sometimes (I remember the bonus), but that does not affect gameplay. If this is an issue, use Higan's compatibility (or even performance) core. Edit: sample of this error, but it's PAL version. I don't know about NTSC.

I did tests today with the Toxic Tower level of DKC2 and I noticed, using lag counter, a difference of 70 frames (~1s) between performance and compatibility cores. It's not negligible. I knew that compatibility core has better console lag emulation, but didn't think so much. I just hope that these lags are only due to console lag emulation...

Performance core is inaccurate compared to the real SNES, although accurate enough to emulate most games for personal enjoyment. For TASing and speedrunning use the compatibility core.

Based on the way the music behaves, you must understand the DKC2 provokes some dysfunctional timing behaviour out of bsnes. If youre going to TAS it, check your work a lot to make sure it syncs, and don't pin your hopes on it matching the console.

By the way, if I make a movie on casual-gaming core and then replay it on the tool-assisted core, will it still sync? Does the casual gaming/tool-assisted only matter for SNES? or does it make difference on other systems too?

Probably not.
