-recorded on Snes9x v1.43-WIP 1
-no warps or passwords used
-I used the money-glitch for 999999$ for saving time
-got as many presents as I could (Casinos, Parks, Headquarters...)
-Sim City is a Town-Building game. The goal is to get as much population as possible in your Town.
-The movie shows how to build a Megametropolis of more than 500000 population in a very fast time, got it on April 1904! The planning of the town before building it was hard and costed a lot of concentration.
Bisqwit: Since you already decided to create an improved
version, I'm rejecting this submission which should have been
cancelled instead.
Well, first of, you don't seem to have used rerecords or any form of slow down at all. Then again, you were aiming for the fastest game time, but I still think that it doesn't qualify for this site.
The fact that you didn't use any form of stacking was cool, although I think one could be faster with it.
I only watched it in fast forward (well, what do you expect, it's almost 2 hours long) but it looked cool the way it was.
Maybe somebody else (or you yourself) will be encouraged to do a more precise and better run by this. It's not bad as a first entry, although I'm rather sure it won't make it.
I voted no because the run looks more like a speed run then a time attack. Also:
Also:
All in all, I think you must remember that this site is for time attacks, not speed runs. However, to insert some positivism in this post (because my goal isn't to destroy you, it's to encourage you into doing a better run), redoing this run using the tools provided (slowdown, frame advance, etc) and following the guidelines WILL make this movie a good movie to watch.
I can think of 2 more improvements.
1. Start on hard. (drain your money a bit faster.
2. Build just your railroad network. Any roads/rails still cost money to maintain, and thus, you can still execute the $999,999 glitch. Plus, if you build it right, you shouldn't have to destroy anything, after execcuting the glitch.
Well, I'm glad to see the first true Sim City run submitted, in any case. However, the others are right--this can be done faster and more efficently with save-states, slowdown, and re-records, and stacking. I do like your building method, however, and I hope you decide to do another run, with either this or something else. Meh.
(I did enjoy the switching between views to add variety. The fact that you planned something like this out, given the unpredictable way population tends to fall after awhile, shows a lot of forethought, as well.)
Thank you for your posts, well I have to say if I make it on hard level, then the population growth will not be that fast what is bad for a time attack or a speed run. About the re-recordsand slowdowns: I didn't even know to this time how to re-record on Snes9x because that was my first use of this emulator :-). Allright I will try to improve this movie as soon as I can but have still to do it on easy as I mentioned above. Thank caitsith2 for the hint with the rails, I will do it like that for saving recording time.
Read the FAQs.

The guidelines and rules are probably also a good idea. If you make a movie on easy there's a high risk that it'll be rejected.
I said no. Mainly because I felt that I could have been better. Although you were trying to get the fastest time, the way you were building stuff was kind of sloppy. Also you didn't play it on the hardest difficulty. As caitsith said, it would have helped in the money glitch execution.
as I said before, If you do it on hard the growth of the population will be slower and you never could reach a good time attack. For the money glitch execution the easy mode is absolutely no problem, because I just build 3 Atom-Powerplants (5000 each, I need 8 of them anyway) and some rails. It has absolutely no difference. I have to choose if I make it just on hard or if I make it as fast as possible, but then the condition is: EASY.
There is one thing to note here, Saturn:
There is a common objection among the "regular gaming community" to many toolruns, mainly because they feel the same effort could be done on a regular console with the additional tools (save-states, slowing down, and the like). To silence those critics, Bisqwit insists that whenever possible, a movie of a game should be made on the highest possible difficulty level, in order to show that these runs are truly of a different quality. Your run may not be accepted if you insist on playing "Easy" or "Medium" mode, no matter how impressive it looks.
Unfortunately, Saturn is right. Given the same set of conditions, (Spend at most $5000, same map, same tax level, same city layout.) to build your city, easy grows the fastest and hard grows the slowest. As such, it might not be possible to build a megalopis on hard, by then end of 1904.
caitsith2 you are cool, its not a megalopez (Jennifer) but a mega-metropolis :-) I see you have played this game very often...
So what now? Play just on hard or making a time-attack, if Bisqwit is reading please tell me what you prefer.
I guess, you used the official version of snes9x 1.43. You have to use (for moviemaking the beter version) "Snes9x 1.43 WIP1" download it on www.snes9x.com.
Here's the settings I watched it with:
ON - Use WIP1 Timing
OFF - Allow Left+Right/Up+Down
ON - Volume Envelope Height Reading
OFF - Fake Mute desync workaround
ON - Sync samples with sound CPU
and it stayed in sync. I'm guessing at some point in the movie he accidentally pressed left+right or up+down at the same time, so make sure that is off especially.
About this run, I think it very obviously should not be published. There's no good reason to so frequently try to build in invalid places and even accidentally build in the wrong place and bulldoze it over to try again. I was never a huge Sim-City fan but I'm sure this can be done much better (and hopefully faster; 2 hours is really long).
well, that was my first snes9x movie-recording at all and I don't used any recording tools like slowdown or rerecord at all so thats why I made this mistaked. I will do a improved version with the tools since i know them now as soon as I can.
I'm sciencing as fast as I can !

PikachuMan, please note the date of the last post in the thread you're responding to. This one is ancient. Bumping isn't a bad thing, but it's helpful to other readers if you note that you did it, so they don't get embroiled in discussions that stopped years ago.
