So, Saturn...now that you've had some time to practice with re-recording and learning a new way to do 100% runs, what do you think of it? Do you prefer the "doing it on the fly" method of recording one long movie without breaks (minus the segments where you scout ahead for testing), or do you prefer making individual segments of different areas and submitting them as a full movie? What do you think, as an accomplished perfect-runner, of the new tools you've been given? In any case, this is turning out very well.

Of course I used the tools from beginning of the game and I will record one long movie since in Snes9x you can load any part of the game with savestates to playback the movie if you mark "read only" before playing the movie. Of course I do not record if I testing ahead because I use the turbo button all the time and play really dirty to make progress as fast as I can and this is definitely no worth for a movie. I started to think of just skiping the 99 call beads glitch if it will still not work and get the diamond eyes instead. This is still a 100% run then since I keep some call beads to the end anyway. There are just to many diferent factors compared on my normal walkthrough I made on ZSNES where I got this glitch to work, but there I don't aimed for a timeattack and leveled up sometimes and took more pots than in this run and this could cause this glitch to not work. I have to go to work now, today evening I will test further.

Ah, I believe you misunderstood. What I was asking was, do you prefer the ability to re-record, and thusly to be able to create a single movie, rather than recording in parts as with ZSNES? Furthermore, how does the addition of re-recording make this current run different than your normal, skill-based 100% runs that you produced in the past?

I definitely prefer re-recorded single movie, its much more usefull and also much faster than recording in parts like in ZSNES.

I said before it's different because I skipped alot of unuseful pots which take me a detour and time to get them, and I also skiped every leveling up, and this is causing the difference between this 2 movies. By the way: Skill is a good point as you mentioned because on ZSNES I haven't a feature to correct mistakes or to slow down at all so it was played live like in a real console.

Well I guess I got the solution to the 99 call bead glitch, and I really think it's not a glitch but a trick the programmers implant in the game intentional. I had a suspicion about this and it seems to be true: Ever heard something of the "Magic Gourd" the one that have mythical unknown powers? Everyone writes this item has absolutely no affect on the game so it is a fake but now I'm about 95% sure it is the key for the 99 call beads trick. My testings proved that if I don't get this magic gourd before gothica I will not be able to get 99 call beads later no matter what variations I do in gothica. In my ZSNES walkthrough I bought this magic gourd everytime before Gothica (in this movie I planned to buy it after gothica because I would have enough money then but it would be to late for 99 call bedas then) and this is the main difference between this 2 movies. Now the problem is, to get the Magic Gourd before Gothica I have to pay 10000 jewels to the Mad Monk to get the Chocobo Egg and then to exchange it for the Gourd. Additional I need 3000 jewels for leveling up the atlas formula to level 2 and at least 8000 jewels (4000 gold coins) for Gothica to buy the new armor and charms there. I get 5000 jewels from the Aquagoth (last boss of Antiqua) so I have to get 3000 jewels additional. This makes a total of 16000 jewels I will need before returning to Nobilia 2nd time and therefore I have to kill many many enemies. Now I need your opinions, what do you prefer sacrificing alot of time to get 16000 jewels and later to get 99 call beads or just skipping this trick and safe alot of time instead? I'm really not sure what is the better choice since 99 call beads (unlimited, I can get them over and over for free) is the by far most usefull trick/glitch in the game. In any case it would be still a 100% run.

Well, while it is a useful trick, you have to weigh in how long it takes to amass all the cash, versus how much time the Call Beads will save. Since you get Call Beads already I don't think you'd need 99 (or infinite) of them to count towards a 100% run, unless you're considering that along the same lines as the Rock-Canyon thing. If you won't be using a lot of Call Beads then maybe it's better not to do it. But if you are, and you'll save more time than you'll spend earning the cash, then go for it.

In addition to getting extra cash, will this render the Atlas glitch useless because of the experience you'll be gaining?

To Spoony_Bard: I forgot to say that after the Verminator I will not need the call beads anymore since I can kill every next boss with the weapos then. The 99 Call Beads trick is not safing time at all later, it's just to reveal the most important secret of the game, nothing else. To Viewer: A good question, have to kill the Mad Monks right before the Hall of Collosia (4x) and as I said they give 75 jewels but only 20 Exp each. So I get 300 jewels per one room and 80 Exp. I have to make at least 10000 jewels here so I will need to repeat this room about 30 times and this will give about 2400 additional Exp in tortal and I guess for a level 2 atlas it will not be enough to cancel the effect even at the end of the game. I reached the point in the recording where I have to decide between this 2 ways so I have to decide as soon as possible and I need the Majority to the better way of you guys until its not to late. Fact is I will lose about 5 min to get the needed cash and about 5 more minutes for detours to make the best trick of the game to work.

Well, I guess you have to decide whether or not you consider the Call Bead glitch part of your 100% goal. 10 minutes does seem like a long time to spend in one area killing enemies for the sake of something that doesn't NEED to be done to advance. If you don't consider the Call Bead glitch (as great as it is) to be necessary for 100% then maybe you should skip it. Someone else have any opinions on this?

I say you should go for the fastest way. After all, it's a time attack! Your 100% completion includes only getting at least one of each item. It doesn't absolutely need that 99 call beads glitch. In my opinion, you should take the fastest path.

Alright, I also think it would be not really entertaing to repeat a room 30 times for cash so I will skip this glitch. I haven't got many opinions but I think its the correct choice. Thank you Spoony_Bard and Halamantariel to ease my decision. I will use the Diamond Eyes glitch instead to keep even more items than normaly possible.

Go for the fastest time. For the 99 call trick, seperate it for demostration (from now record). I want to see both ;)

For full demonstration of the 99 call beads trick I will need about 1 hour because I have to complete full Gothica world with some correct variations and this is a really long time for a trick. I suggest you just watch my ZSNES run of this game to see exactly what to do right after I bought the key for it (Magic Gourd). www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/zsnesmovies.htm I recommend you the 2nd run (crazy walkthrough with also the Atlas trick because this one is really fast. PS: Almost done the Great Pyramid, now have to optimize the returning move to the exit right after I got Horace's Regeneration Magic of the Pot.

Good news: Tested ahead to the end by killing Carltron's Robot (last boss of the game) and calculated the experience till the last kill. Level 2 Atlas will be enough if I don't kill to many enemies in Gothica and Omnitopia. The Money will also be enough for every armor I have to buy later. Now the way is open for a perfect recording, all doubts cleared.

It's time for a update! Completed Great Pyramid and defeated Rimsala. In the big tresure room I took only the middle line since it has the most different items I had not before, besides I skipped 2 pots of Dry Ice (5 in total and the only ingredient I can't buy over and over) because of detours. Movie updated to WIP 7! www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm Recording time still less than 1 hour (59 min)

Now I have to go beat this and Secret of Mana again. Since watching the runs I've been interested in playing them again. Great job so far on the run by the way.

Reached Nobilia 2nd time, defeated Aegis, and leveled up Atlas to level 2. Now I have to optimize the final cast of atlas to get as much strenght as possible to hold the negative value to the end otherwise it will not be enough. Its very hard to find the best cast because the variable changes after every frame so I have to find the absolute peak of the cast. I will do it tomorrow.

That's good news, Saturn. Glad to hear your getting things done so quickly. I have watched all the videos at your site and I must say I am a big fan. I can't wait to see the finished version of this run. I have wathced the WIP up to the market scene at which point I forced myself to stop until the full release gets finished. Keep up the fantastic work!

I'm back on Secret of Evermore again after a small timeout with other movies and defeated Aquagoth with Magic. Also after very long searching I found the best strenght gain of level 2 Atlas which will just be enough till level 31 and it should be enough for the rest of the game. Now exactly at the beginning of Gothica - my favourite World, with an amount of money that is only 8 gold coins bigger than the price of all items I have to buy. Movie updated to WIP 8! www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm Exactly 70 min at beginning of Gothica! PS: Thank you Wren, but for the final release it will take a while.

I wondered about this when I last played the game and you might know the answer Saturn: In Onmitopia, is it necessary to turn off the lights in the greenhouse? I tried on the console to get past that room and I did manage it quite a few times to the last plant but that one seems to hit (==kill) me every time. Is it possible ot get past that thing or is it scripted that way?

It's much faster if you can pass the Greenhouse with lights on since you can take the items in D4 room and don't have to turn back to switch the lights off. The Greenhouse is a very mysterios room. I spended months on it almost 10 years ago to find a way to kill the Flowering Deaths because rumors are they give the most experience for a fast level up, but it seems that they are the only enemies you can't kill in the game. Now the answer to your question is yes! You can pass the greenhouse with lights on. The last plant (Flowering Death) is specially programmed to kill you in any case even with Aura or Barrier with a 999HP instantly no matter what your defense is, but there is still a way to pass it. Now there are 2 choices: You can just watch one of my ZSNES movies for this game on www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/zsnesmovies.htm or wait for this movie after I reach Omnitopia to see exactly what to do there, since it's hard to explain with words.

I used to get past the greenhouse plants by just switching to your dog and back

The dog can't pass the 2nd last plant if he is alive. And if he is down (O HP) he can't run so the CPU boy will catch up the dog again and get killed by the last plant anyway (the boy will be attacked no matter if CPU or not) if you can't reach the light-beam fast enough. The only way is to cast something on the boy to stop him for a while, so the exhausted dog can reach the light beam fast enough.

Well, I'm sure you know what you are talking about but, I did try it and if I control both character at the same time I can get the dog to the teleporter thing. Maybe just my rom? Anyway it don't matter
