Doki Doki Panic is the FDS game that was the original version of Super Mario Bros 2 USA. While it is not as cool as SMB2u (sound effects are weird, musics are a little worse, there's no running), it might still be interesting -- I'm sure most people would like to see a run of this game as a museum sight. And most of the SMB2u tricks probably work in it. Any takers?

Don't you have to complete it four times, once with every character? And you can't switch characters between levels. I remember reading that somewhere. Never played the game myself.

Nah, this isn't worth another movie on the site. If people want to see the differences so badly, they should just play the game themselves.

Heh, you need to click Eject first. And disk setting seems to be broken for some games in the patched FCEU right now.

Anyone up for doing a run for this game? I'd love to see the differences between Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2!
Why, oh, why do I even try to understand my own species?

>I'd love to see the differences between Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2! Like stated above, the easiest way then is probably to just play the game.

And how are they supposed to do that if they don't own an Famicom? Surely you can't be advocating that they download the ROM somewhere or something like that? I, for one, would LOVE to see a movie of this game.

>I, for one, would LOVE to see a movie of this game. Even though you can't run, have to play the game through 4 times and can only use one character at a time for all the levels? To me that sounds very boring. And just how are suggesting the movie should be recorded and encoded unless people download the ROM? I'm pretty sure none of the encoders own a Famicom. :P

Not for me - I do, however, find things like 4+ hour RPG runs (Chrono Trigger etc.) to be extremely sleep-inducing. Different strokes for different folks. :)

Well, that was somewhat of a tongue-in-cheek comment, obviously. But given that we're trying not to encourage such practices, a comment that essentially says "just download a ROM and play it yourself" is a bit weird. Yes, the encoders need ROMs, but I do believe that they all own the necessary systems and games; and if not, well, it's a "of course they do have all that, wink-wink-nudge-nudge" situation, at least. :) Besides, I don't know about others, but when I play games myself, I don't usually get very far - part of the appeal of the runs on on this site is to be able to see games (all parts of them!) you otherwise wouldn't see.

I agree, voting YES for a Doki Doki Panic TAS run.

Hi, I don't know if this is the proper place to ask, but I think it would be interesting to see a speed run of Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic. I think it would be intersting to see the game as it was.

Moved your post into the existing thread about that game (you could have found it yourself if you used "search" at "doki doki panic"). Possibly, the previous replies already answer your question. Check them.

Sorry about that. I don't use forums very often. I guess I should do some reading.

I remember having trouble with that error. It is really easy in FCEU. Use eject disk, switch disk side, insert disk. Have fun!

I've heard about the game but never played it. Would it be possible to make a joint SMB2-Doki Doki Panic speedrun with a single input? ;)

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5307 I abandoned that project and am now working on a run that beats SMB1, SMB2, SMB2j, and SMB3 with one input.

Same with me. Though I'm also a person who likes to see games completed 100% without any glitching. Sometimes a TAS is great to see, but I'm a much bigger fan of a "Fastest possible time to complete a game the way it was intended." I think it would be neat to see a complete run of Doki Doki Panic. (Just as I'd like to see a complete run of Legend of Zelda, 100% with the levels completed in the order of 1=>9).

I enjoy seeing 100% complete games too, but I can imagine how difficult it would be to play out and execute, then go back and and find as many improments as possible... But I really respect anyone who can do it. Some of the solutions are so brilliant I can hardly believe what I am watching.

I vote no. To complete the game you have to get all four characters through all the levels. That's just not entertaining. Super Mario BRos 2 (usa version) is truly the better game.

Well, if all four characters does the same thing, then of course it will be boring. However, if each character doesn't something different (maybe even slightly different paths), then it can be entertaining. Imagine, even in SMB2(USA), the plays are different between Princess, Mario, Luigi and Toad. As long as there are enough differences between each character's run, I think Doki doki panic will be entertaining to watch.

I make a comic with no image files and you should read it. While there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free. -Eugene Debs
