Incase anyone is interested this is how hyper Sonic looks and plays. I think he's just the same but with shield shield actions.
If you had read what I said before when I answered your question about hyper sonic, you would know that hyper sonic effectively has access to all shield actions at once, by pressing (direction) + jump in midair. And he can breathe underwater without needing the bubble shield. Although this is useless in a speed run, because there is no water after Launch Base zone.
This was only to show to people who hadn't seen Hyper Sonic. Not to someone who already knew.

It isn't. Mainly lack of motivation, and today my desktop computer has decided to hate me.

I am now officially giving up on this run, and all of my runs for that matter. If anyone would like to continue from my efforts, I'd appreciate it - it would be very nice to see the final result. From now on, I'll be checking TASvideos a lot less frequently.

Are there some circumstances behind this? I sure hope it's not because of my work on the Knuckles run.

No, it isn't because of your Knuckles run. I'm just not cut out to be a TASer. Against SG, my times look completely pathetic. That, and I've found better things to do, like my work on Fusion for Linux (I'm 100% Linux-user now). Sorry if I'm disappointing anyone, but I just feel I'm wasting my time here when many people can do this better than me, and I have other things I could be spending my time much more wisely on.

Hey everyone, I decided to come back to TAS-making :D http://www.invhost.com/share/?335 I started my run over, playing only AIZ. Unfortunately, I was 4 seconds slower in act 1, and 3 seconds slower in act 2. However, I've certainly improved the special stages, because the total time is only 1 frame slower (what a coincidence)! I also added in some "invisible dancing" (press buttons to the music, even though they don't do anything - turn on input display to watch) in the boring parts. Quite how I lost 3-4 seconds in each act I have no idea, because I took pretty much the same route and tried to improve on the frame accuracy. I'm going to look into that. I also decided to make this a "no abuse" run - ie. no using the scroll glitch, collision glitches, and all of the other weird stuff that Nitsuja uses. However, "abuse" does not include using left/right or up/down - I use left/right a lot in this run to stop without turning round, and it's extremely useful! It also doesn't include using the high-jump-off-a-slope technique. By the way, ignore the fact that it says the movie has zero rerecords. I have no idea why it doesn't count the rerecords, but it must be a problem with Linux Gens.

watched the run - I did think that it was a little sloppy in some parts...(which proberly explains the 3/4 seconds slower on the stages.) I am going to watch it again tomorrow and see if I can spot where you are slipping up. Also - best way to end the movie - Killing yourself. (I did enjoy the invisible dancing...)

Well you can't expect everyone to agree, can you? You're just jealous cause Sonic 1 had nothing worth abusing. >_>

Hahahaha! Very nice. I seriously did enjoy the previous S3&K more from a "entertaining video" standpoint. But I also dislike the Mega Man runs that are similarly abusive, so insert grain of salt.

I found some places while re-watching the movie yesterday, in act 1: 1. Took longer to get into the first special stage because of the enemy. Must figure out how I got past that on my previous run. 2. Turns out losing my rings and falling the correct way actually lost a lot of time, even though it didn't look like it. 3. Getting the flame shield and spindashing at the boss wasted a lot of time. I think with those fixed Act 1 should be faster than in my previous run. I still don't know about Act 2 though. I also watched Upthorn's Knuckles run. I was pretty impressed by his runs of the special stages (well, the first three, didn't watch more than that). I guess I should replicate his first one for extra speed, but I wouldn't want to copy #2 and #3 because jumping into a see of red spheres is abuse as I see it...

Bah. it's not abuse until you jump onto a red sphere, and turn right, and don't die.

IMO it's not really abuse. back on my old Genesis, I used to use it all the time to avoid those tricky situations where I accidentally turn or something. I'm not sure jumping in between the spheres is something the programmers didn't intend, at least. Maybe I'm missing the point..

since I turned on input to watch invisible dancing I noticed you didn't hold up during the special stages which upthorn discovered help speed up the speed-ups or something and you could take more care to avoid rings (I think each ring adds a frame?). Also by spindashing the boss you waste time you could could have spent jumping into him, and your fire shield collection was really slow compared to nitsuja's :/ Other than that though I liked it.

I don't believe this... I just restarted my run AGAIN, but I still can't beat my previous record; this time, both acts are 2 in-game seconds slower than in my last run. God I suck at this... >.>

You could rerecord off of your last run...

Not really. If I can't even match my previous record, then how am I supposed to produce something acceptable on the next zone I play? Besides, I lose so much time in the special stages, and can't hexedit GMVs for jack.

Have you tried the all-purpose tas editor Maximus is working on somewhere else on these forums?

In other words, why should I bother continuing, when the potentially finished run will get rejected? -_-

Well, you may not be aware, but when I did my Knuckles TAS, I TASed the game three and a half times. First once to get the hang of the engine Then once to get the routes down Then once for optimization Then repeat steps 2 & 3 whenever a faster route is discovered (unless it's a level-wrap). Basically, even if you start from the end of the last WIP you posted publically (I think you were at mushroom hill), by the time you finish, you should be familiar enough with the game engine to do a proper TAS the second time around.

Hello? Anyone still doing this?
Why, oh, why do I even try to understand my own species?
