Hey ! I've didn't find any thread for this game so I will make one. Crack Down is an Arcade / Computers game remade for the Genesis. You need to kill enemys, put bombs on the bigs Xs and finish the level. This is a good game. There is a speedrun of the game in 14 minutes but I aim more for 11 12 minutes. I've found one cool mechanic: when you go on an angle with a good angle/ good frame and good inputs, you can be telported by a few pixels. I think this is a good TAS

Never seen this game before. Very simple, just need to find the fastest movement. Link to video Though a 2-player TAS would be more interesting and faster, I suppose. So, what I see: Super bombs will be useless. Yellow rockets destroy everything on their way. Pinning to the wall, what a nice way to dodge bullets)) 2-3 frames should be enough to avoid a shot. Looks like, enemies just block you if you touch them. Planting a bomb makes you invicible for some time.
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

2 players is not interresting due to the fact that 2 player makes the game super slow, this is why the 2 player speedrun wr is 20 minutes. This is simple movment but with the little trick I found, the TAS is a lot better. Sadly I've not used it on the first stage. I will make a WIP soon.

I'm also making a WIP. I'll send it when I finish. And I have figured out what's the trick)) I've chosen Hard difficulty and 20 M.Gun ammo (default amount of ammo).

Machine gun shooting anmation - takes 11-19 frames. Melee attack animation takes 8-15 frames. Looks like the game has it's own in-game lagging which is not shown by the emulator (I use Gens 11a). I have no other reason that in different cases it takes different amount of time.

This lag is a big problem, to reduce him, I think we need to have the less possible amount of enemys shown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uslDpggrL9k On multi-player, this is very slow for this reason, the problem is the emulator, not the game. Enemy are not RNG, that's good, I've optimized a lot my 1-1 with that (almost 150 frames)

No, I got a 19-frame shooting animation while there were only 3 enemies on the screen. Maybe it's better to do a point blank rather than shoot at the first possible frame.

1st level is done! Stage 1 Act 1 is done in 00:18.20 secs if we count frame 262 as beginning of the act and 1354 - as ending. Speedrun's time is 22 secs (±). Link to video

Firstly, your TAS should be faster than mine. Else, you'll have to redo your WIP.

Your file is blocked. I have doubt that your route is optimal. You could bypass some enemies without losing time. In act 1 the fastest route is going up after planting the last bomb. In act 2 you've lost much time on killing mad-murderer since he takes 2 shots to die. Melee attack is the fastest way. Killing a proto army is a waste of time, you could just bypass him. In act 3 grabbing ammo is a waste of time. Anyway, I don't contact with Bizhawk, so you can consider me an outsider. I was glad to help you!

In act 1, going down is faster, I'm sure of that In act 2, you are true, I will change that In act 3, I can really need these amos ! If I don't need them, I will edit this part when my TAS will be finished After some tests, If I modifie one input, all the TAS will be affected... There will be 30 frames lost at the start :/

I think my tas is dead because of that, this doesn't open when we shoot... EDIT: Finally, I've found a way to open this door ! There is no written playthrought on internet and all the videos are in easy or medium. All needed 2 or 3 shoot on the door, but after a bit of trys I've found I can open the door with 8 shoot ! I think this is due to the hardest difficulty.

There is a way to clip on the wall when you do a precise manipulation on a door which open and close. I used it at the very start of 2-4 to save some frames ! I will se if I can use it in another place :p
