With the discovery of the Blue Shell Double Jump Trick, I have done this by expecting a great improvement.
This video was improved by 5974 frames.(About 1:39.566)
  • Emulator used: DeSmuME v0.9.9 (Bus-Level Timing is OFF)
  • warpless (Warp cannon not used)
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses death as a shortcut

Glitches, tricks, etc.

  • Shell-speed gaining trick
    • Ducking on a cliff and entering the reverse key of either the left or right direction will accelerate quickly.
    • When the maximum speed is reached, it moves while maintaining the maximum speed even if it slides on the ground.
    • Take Super Star and use this trick, you can move at the highest speed of Starman.
  • Blue Shell Double Jump Trick
    • When vertical velocity is exactly 0, releasing the shell state jumps.
  • Slope acceleration by Shell
    • You can accelerate at downhill by canceling being a shell in a motion that throws a sprite.
    • You need to constantly jump to maintain speed.
  • 3-Castle. In the state of being in the shell (not in the slipping state) it is not damaged by spiked pillars. When you reach the ground, x-speed will be 0 so I will jump constantly.
  • You can shorten it slightly by turning yourself in front at the end of the boss game.
Other tricks and glitches are written here.

Masterjun: Judging.
Masterjun: Amazing run. Finding a glitch to jump in midair breaking games once again! Accepting to Moons as an improvement to the previous run.
Spikestuff: Publishing.

Amazing run, the application of the tricks are really noticeable and the strategies used to complete each stage are really good, so I vote YES !

Still watching it, but it is excellent so far. I do have two things to say: 1) Someone should consider looking into a 100% run of this game. (That would be all exits, all Star Coins collected, and all Star Coins spent) Such a run would require different strategies, and showcase other levels. 2) What the hell is going on in 5-Tower EDIT: Finished watching, that was some excellent stuff. Yes vote!

There is a good chance he's way ahead of you. As for the run; easy yes vote. Great work Hartmann.

We used two cheat codes when producing 5-Tower. One is to change the speed of automatic scrolling. Another thing is to make Mario slip through the enemy. After using these two things and finishing the production, I played without using cheat codes and confirmed that there was no problem. In addition, enemies and star coins will not appear outside the screen. Unlock private videos recorded using cheat codes. https://youtu.be/vkX8JdBC-D0

Why did you pick up and throw a shell near the start of 1-4? I can't see an obvious reason, but you had to slow down to do it, so there must be one. EDIT: You did the same thing with a trampoline in 8-1, wasting even more time, so I'm guessing that this increases your movement speed for the rest of the level somehow. Is this what you mean by "Slope acceleration by Shell"?

Excellent run Hartmann. Interesting how the fireflower is no longer worth being used despite all the boss battles you have to fight. One question, is it faster to pick up the blue shell in 8-Tower instead of 8-3?

Yes, this is what Hartmann meant by "slope acceleration by shell." By throwing an item while traveling down a slope, you can increase your speed as if you weren't in the shell. Jumping on the first frame you go into the shell allows you to keep the speed you were at. Since you are able to reach speeds faster than normal running speed when you run down a slope, doing this trick allows you to maintain that speed for as long as you're in the shell, which is usually the rest of the level in this run. This makes it worth taking some time to pick up an item to use this trick cause you travel so much faster and save more time at the end.

W8 refers to the Japanese version of the record. Link to video In 8-Tower, waiting time is required to go to the fourth moving scaffold. In the meantime pick up the blue shell.

Good job on the encode! I only noticed that the screens changed sizes halfway through the run!

bows Now I wait for 100% where I commit suicide and have to deal with switch top and bottom screen ontop of all that.
