There has recently been alot of activity concering anti-piracy here in Sweden. People shows their appreciation towards APB (Antipiratbyrån), or the Anti-Piracy Bureau if translated. Anyways. Today I was sent a funny Tintin comic where they had re-written the dialogues. This picture if in Swedish, but be my guest to read it if you feel like. :) Another notice is that the chief's name of APB is Henrik Pontén. Which makes this a bit funnier to know. ;) Here's the url anyways. Enjoy! http://highness.no-ip.com/apb3.png

(Let's see if my translator holds out, here...also, I'm going to embellish a bit for the English speakers.) Okay, it's Tintin meets the Thompsons working for the APB. First panel I'm not sure about with the accent marks, but Tintin's noting the Gestapo-like tactics of the APB. (Second Panel) Dupont: We of the APB work to defend the interests of the rich media conglomerates! Tintin: I see, Duponts. So, which innocent music-loving citizen will you gang up on today? (Third Panel) Tintin: How much harm could the private citizen be doing? Don't the companies make a lot of money anyway? Dupont: Bah! It costs a lot of money to make bad music, you know... (Fourth Panel--(Soon), at a (law unit?) near you...) (Fifth Panel (Assumed one of Haddock's "curses"--substituting) Haddock: Purple profiteering jellyfish! Gangsters! Get out of here! Tintin: Captain, calm down! (Sixth Panel) Haddock: At last, victory! The APB has backed off! Now, for a bottle of rum! Tintin: But Captain, think of all the (proper?) music we've lost! (Seventh Panel, shouted at the Duponts) Haddock: You're just a puppet of the big corporations that want to snatch everyone's last dollar! (Eighth Panel) Haddock: The APB will never find my fileserver with the pirated images, either. Harharhar! (Tenth Panel) Dupond: It's a dirty job, this... Dupont: (Unsure translation) (Eleventh Panel) Tintin: Perhaps it would help you if you found his fileserver. Dupont: Smart... Dupond: Brilliant... (Twelfth Panel) Haddock: You're back again?! Bombs, grenades, antipirate groups--it doesn't matter! They all get (something). Besides this, here's some Tintin information.

Do you speak any Swedish? If not that was a very good attempt. Did you do it only by looking up the words in a dictionary? Tintin's noting the Gestapo-like tactics of the APB: Där går de avskummen med sina gestapofasoner = There are those scum with their gestapo manners. (law unit?): lägenhet = apartment Purple profiteering jellyfish: Undan, huggormars avföda = Away, O generation of vipers. (Biblical, but I know you realised this was some random insult.) (proper?) music: skräpmusik = crap music pirated images: piratkopierade låtar = pirated songs (Unsure translation): men någon måste göra det annars får vi inte se fler Britney-album = but someone has to do it or else we will not see any new Britney albums. Perhaps it would help you if you found his fileserver: Om ni följer nätverkskabeln så kanske ni hittar hans filserver = if you follow the network cable you might find his fileserver. it doesn't matter! They all get (something): dags att skaffa trådlöst = time to get a wireless connection.

Ah...thank you for the compliment, and the correction. Yes, I did use a dictionary of sorts--I didn't have a hardcopy at hand, you see, and I don't speak the language. Ok, so with that in mind, it goes something like this: (1P) T: It looks like those thugs are at it again, just like the Gestapo... (2P) T: Well, Duponten, which innocent music-loving folk are you going after today? D: Innocent! Not in the eyes of the music industry, or the APB! (3P) T: Is the private citizen with his music really doing that much harm to the corporations? D: Hmph! The industry needs every last dollar to continue putting out bad music, you know... (4P) (Soon, at an apartment near you...) (5P) H: Out, you brood of vipers! T: Captain, control yourself! (6P) H: You see? A little force and the APB backs off! Now, a bottle of rum to celebrate! T: But Captain, you're depriving people of their bad music! (7P--shouted downstairs) H: You're only after me because the music industry wants everyone's last cent! You're their puppets! (8P) H: The APB won't find my fileserver with the pirated songs, anyway. Bwahahaha! (10P) DP: It's a dirty job, this... D: Remember, whether new Britney albums are made or not rests on our shoulders... (11P) T: There's a network cable here--perhaps at the end is his fileserver. DP: Ah, yes... D: Smart lad. (12P) H: Blistering barnacles, you antipiraters again?! I'm getting a wireless server.

I've found that computerized translation usually doesn't do a very good job, the only exception possibly being technical descriptions. A lot of extra work is needed to produce something which actually makes sense. I can translate the exact meaning from Swedish to English (as above) but knowing what sounds natural or humorous is something else. Looks like you got it pinned down anyway. If you're interested, the only other swedish-english translation device I know of online is this dictionary: http://www-lexikon.nada.kth.se/skolverket/sve-eng.shtml It's free though, and as usual you get what you pay for.

I always use http://www-lexikon.nada.kth.se/skolverket/sve-eng.shtml When I want to find out what words mean when I'm insecure :> I think it works great!
