Recorded with snes9x improvement (completed with v6) which can be found here:

The movie MUST be played with this improved version, or it WILL desync.
For correct playback, under the emulator sync settings only have checked the 'Use WIP1 Timing' and 'Fake Mute desync workaround' boxes.
Uses no warps or passwords.
Manipulates luck.
Aims for fastest time.
This is a unique Squaresoft RPG that uses traditional Nintendo characters from the classic Super Mario Bros games.
This movie includes the fights with Jinx and Culex. Although the movie may have shorter without them, it is more interesting to be able to observe them and take advantage of their rewards later in the game. The Lucky Jewel is used in most of the boss fights, most notably in the Culex fight for a colossal 488 experience and double level-ups for almost everyone. The Lucky Hammer was bought to use against the Shoguns to save the Lucky Jewel for use in more effective instances (i.e. the Culex fight).
Timing for freebies was the most tedious aspect. I would have liked to have used less Rock Candies and Fire/Ice Bombs, but at least I was able to alternate a lot between them instead of constantly using the same thing over and over, and I often managed without them.
The rerecord count is not accurately conceivable. It should be much larger since a lot of the controller data was hexed from the test version (which had a rerecord count of 26462). The hexed data is only from out of battle in places where there were no problems to begin with.
Actually it looks like this is over 12 minutes faster than the WIP on the SNES threads, based on the frame number at least. Tha's more impressive than it would seem from the total length of the movie given that there are so many unskippable cut-scenes. (I'm about to watch it.)
Note to whoever encodes this in case it is published: Actually, Fake Mute doesn't seem to be necessary for playback, in which case it's better to leave it off since it might sometimes cause missing sounds. This game does seem to require a fresh restart of Snes9x and maybe the 10 second warmup to play back, though.
This game is so tedious and the movie is equally long.
Well done though. Therefore it deserves the YES vote I think.
And yes, I also have to admit that every now and then I tabbed through the one or other scene; it was just too long to watch it all in one go.
Keep it up Spezzafer.

a definite yes. will there be a more detailed description on why certain things happen to sum it all up (somewhat like Arc had for Zelda 2)? not that it matters... tedious as it is, its very nice to see it done so quick and so well (especially some of the puzzles).
curiosity... how long is this if the "cutscenes" are not counted? rough guess? anyhow, will there be an AVI? i can only imagine its size. :)
It was indeed long :P
Massive use of luck manipulation and well, since I've never played the game myself, I'll haev to trust that the route and item usage was efficient :)

About the only possible fault I noticed was the changing of lanes to grab coins in the barrel rapids thing, it looks as if always going forward would be faster. I'm guessing this was either needed for something I don't know about or a conscious stylistic choice; the care and attention to detail here is damnably impressive for a 3-hour run, regardless of that small question. Definite yes.
For me it was a rather hard choice. It was done pretty much as well as I could hope for, but long RPGs (or even short ones) aren't that enjoyable for me. But it was worth one watch-through, I'd say. But anyway, I voted yes simply because it was very well done and I think the site should have one good and long SNES RPG, but it was a hard choice for me.
I understand...and I don't in any way endorse the endeavor for this to be encoded into an AVI because I wouldn't want anyone tieing up their connection without realizing they are downloading 1000 MB+ of impertinent dialogue.
Another reason for the save states, for anyone who wants to watch a section of the movie any time they want. For anyone making a run as long as this I strongly recommend keeping a collection of save states to release with their submission.
Thank you all for your comments!
I haven't watched the vid yet and won't for some time. 3 hours is quite a commitment! I voted yes anyways because it's a badass game and by God just the effort of recording the whole thing is worth something. Besides, an improved video would be long in the making so it would be nice to have this one up for the time being.
I voted yes. There were some parts of the movie I was dissatisfied with though, such as the battles with Culex and Smithy. Those parts were just ruined due to the fact that the same items were used over and over. Also, I think better results would've been achieved if the Troopa Pin was used instead of the feather or Jinx Belt. Not only does Troopa pin increase speed by 20 like the feather, but also gives a permanent attack boost by 1.5X (much like the quartz charm, but that also boosts defense as well)
Aside from that, it is a worthwhile movie. This game is one of my top favorites, and I'm glad someone made a movie for it. ^_^
Actually, he does collect 79 coins which is 19 more than he really needs to (60 for one frog coin). So he could've skipped the last 19 and not switch lanes at the end, but in a 3 hour movie, were talking about a fraction of speed loss ;) (and is it really even faster? or just another illusion like timed hits=slower)
Anyway, low-level & world-record by almost a hour beating timeattack. What is not to like? Definetly a YES.
Well, I didn't catch the fact that he collected more than necessary...
Ultimately though, I liked it. I always said this game was great, but way too short ^^;
And now I have proof.

I didn't know that about the Troopa Pin. I could rerecord from that point and probably end up cutting off a few extra minutes at the end...it wouldn't take too long because I can hex edit most of the data into the proper places.
I'll probably have it done by the end of the day.
Just an FYI, the record for the cart ride is 1:57.18. (You got 1:59.60)
I voted yes. It's superb even if there are some things that need a little work. All of the overworld movement and the star places were really well done.
