My first run using FCEU. I can't stress how good frame advance is. The entire run was done frame by frame, so it is very precise.
New Improvements:
1-1. Uses the ladder warp glitch, which requires both careful timing of the "Get enemy stuck in the floor" glitch and "Fall through the floor" glitch, to get to Birdo and finishes the level 4.25 sec faster.
1-2. Toad is used instead of Luigi. This time Toad is unharmed from picking up the enemy underneath the flying carpet. Jumping on the carpet is more precise. Over 3 seconds is saved by using the Illusionary item glitch to defeat Birdo with a vegetable instead of the key.
4-1. Faster by 14 frames using a quick double jump.
6-3. Is around 5 seconds faster using up+down to jump the wall instead of double jump.
7-1. Around 7 seconds faster using up+down.
Just about all levels and bosses are done frames faster.
I also try to improve the run aesthetically.
Glitches used:
  • Double jump
  • Double jump from under enemy
  • Faster running with Toad carrying an enemy
  • Pick up nothing
  • Pick up enemy from underneath
  • Get enemy stuck in the floor
  • Fall through the floor
  • Ladder warp
  • Illusionary Item
  • Up+down fast climbing glitch
Features:
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Uses warps
  • Genre: Platform
  • Abuses programming errors in the game

That's ... WILD. I like it a lot. Seems to desync for some people. Note that you need the SMB2 ROM PRG0 version (not PRG1). Ps: Are you sure there are no other places where the fall-through-floor trick could be used? The logic, as for where it leads from different places, seems to be interesting.

Cool. :) Do we even need to have a vote for this one?

thought it was just a bad rom... the checksum on mine was all 0's for the movie. anyhow, used PRG1 and it worked fine. very nice.

I never expected this game to be improved by... what, 20 seconds? What's the total improvement? Anyway, I haven't watched this yet but I'm sure it is extremely cool. Very nicely done. Can't wait for the .AVI. :)

I'd love to see the warp bug explored more. Very nicely done with the rocketladders :P

Well done, but do you think it's perfect.... Have you tried this warp glitch elsewhere?

Yes. I pretty much went through every ladder and vine in the game where it is possible. When you do this trick, it will take you to one of these places: 1. The screen where you last climbed a ladder or vine. 2. The nearest screen that has an invisible vine located at the top of the screen. Two places I found these vines are at the very start and just outside where Birdo is. It can also take you back and forth between levels, but the Birdo one is the only one I found useful.

Do you need a climbable for that?

Yes. Otherwise, you just get stuck in the floor, but you can still jump out.

Well, that problem must simply just be solved then :P

Awesome! The ladder glitch was indeed cool, the one at the first stage (or maybe that was falling through the floor-glitch). Anyways, I only got one question: will there be a full version of this game using those glitches?

I liked it a lot. It's fast and features quite a library of interesting glitches. An easy 'yes'.

The illusionary item trick for the 2nd stage was pretty cool to me. Everything else seemed really awesome, easy yes vote from me.

Interesting. Good job. :)

Yeah. I'm not sure when I'll get to work on it. True, it is spring break for me and I've got loads of time, but I've been playing Silent Hill 3 a whole lot lately...

At the very end it looks like it's a tiny bit slower to not be exactly on top of the door when Wart dies. (But in this case I figured I would vote Yes first and ask questions later.)

Actually, that door is a pillar before it becomes a door, so logically, Toad COULDN'T be inside it beforehand.

Ideas for a movie description... ---------------- On this site, we are often seeking for the answer to the question: "What is the fastest time game X can be completed in?" And every time the question is asked, the answer changes. That's what has happened once again. Sleepz has bested Genisto's jawdropper by amazing 20 seconds by not only using the up+down trick in ladders, but some other clever techniques as well. If you are wondering how some of the tricks in this video works, go to the Super Mario Bros tricks (you won't find it at the How Stuff Works site!). ---------------

The PRG0 version left me with all zeros in checksum. But it went fine anyways. Damn amzing video.

Great work! The Limbo Song has almost been answered on this one. On the second flying level you pause for a ½ second or so to land on an enemy when it looks like you could have continued onto the next flying thing (A bee). Is there no way to reach that one?

[20:03] <omeg> Why does that movie file not properly show a CRC of the ROM used? [20:04] <omeg> Also, the "ROM used" entry in submissions is really useless if it's a renamed ROM. In the SMB2 vid, it was the PRG0 version of the ROM, but it wasn't mentioned.

Why did he go into subspace in 1-2? I didn't understand that. Otherwise, paint me amazed.

He did that in order to pick a pseudo-nothing. It happens when you pick something very quickly before/after entering a door.
