My first attempt at a TAS. Most likely missed a lot of potential skips and better routes.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.2.2
  • Save the princess and kill final boss

There aren't that many game mechanics that you can abuse.
The main one that I abuse is air rolling, which allows you to move at the same velocity as walking on the ground, but you can dodge enemies this way.
You also want to land after jumps as little as possible, as when you land, for a few frames your velocity is reduced.
If you combine the flower bug with air rolling, you can have a consistent velocity of 7, even when you bounce off enemies.
Comparing that to when you get the invincibility "meat", you have a velocity of 6 and your normal movement is 4 and 3 underwater.
The last "bug" that I abuse is on the tank boss, where you can keep attacking him with a 1 frame gap, which makes that battle very short.
There are a few places where I hit the head on the floor, causing a few frame loss. Many of them are just because that is the fastest route, but some could probably be avoided.
I have abused damage boosting only on 1-1, 2-3, 4-1, 5-1, Waterfall, 4th boss (to get on his head) and final boss. The rest of the places where I take damage are on purpose because they are the fastest way through.

Memory: Claiming for judging
Memory: Replacing with 1765 frame improvement.
Memory: Replacing with 668 frame improvement...
And rejecting for consistent sloppiness throughout all these improvements. I've found way too many improvements and things unaccounted for by the author within minutes of doing research for this to be acceptable. We do not like to have a large number of marginal improvements shortly after being submitted and have none of them be acceptable. He has not studied the PCE version TAS, which although it has different stages, has near identical mechanics. Please interact more with other people in regards to games you are working on and upload your work to userfiles prior to submitting. I hope you continue to TAS, but spend a little more time on your work, thank you.

Hello and Welcome to TASvideos ! I didn't download and watched your run, but if you are not sure this is the best route and think about potential skips, Why did you not try them ? Everyone can make mistakes in his TAS (more when this is his first), but it has to be as little as possible and here we can't know. Ask to other people on the site if they see improvments or better routings and try every single new route and skip you thought. I'm sure you take the TAS as greatest as a newcomer would :). I hope you won't take my words as an attack but more as advices.

Link to video I must say it looks good. Yes vote!
my personal page - my YouTube channel - my GitHub - my Discord: thunderaxe31 <Masterjun> if you look at the "NES" in a weird angle, it actually clearly says "GBA"

I was hoping the NES version would have that flower bonk trick like the PCE TAS uses: http://tasvideos.org/1631M.html glad to see it does. my only question is what are some differences between the NES and PCE version that could affect the run?

From what I can tell, the entire game has been re-done. All levels, bosses, mechanics are completely different.

There's a bunch of things I have questions about so if you could write a detailed description of certain things you did throughout the TAS in the submission text, it would be appreciated. For example you bonked the ground in a couple spots and I'm wondering why.
[16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero

Hey, I was entertained by this, I voted yes, nice first attempt at a TAS. I was actually going to do this game, but now I don't! I can focus more on the Gameboy version now as well as my other big project. Thanks for doing this game!

I have re-synced the run to NesHawk as well as used some more optimized routes. The movie is available here: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/47516402969589642

I think the only option to reduce frames now would be to somehow not take the red heart in 4-3 as that is currently the biggest time loss of ~300 frames.

The improvements definitely look better and more entertaining, I'll now cast a yes vote for this.

So I noticed you spent a long while at the corner of the ledge on the first screen, so I took a look to see if I could avoid spending so much time there: I could and saved 13 frames in the process. This is after only a couple minutes of testing so it is very likely that more time can come off this. I saw some other cases where the TAS gets stuck on corners and stuff like in the water stages. If you could address these cases and my improvement, it would be appreciated. I'm willing to work with you on an improvement if you would like.
