Anybody think doing a run for either of these games would be possible?
From what I remember Silver Star and Blue Star were pretty short, think Blue Star was a little easier and quicker.
What's the consensus on either of these two?
...And didn't they recently come out for GBA or am I making that up?
*mutters something about being unable to do Sega CD runs*
There's a sorta-kinda remake out for GBA, called Lunar Legends.
*mutters something about the Sega CD version of the original being better than the remake*
I'm kinda torn on Lunar 2, though. The SCD version had Parasite Eve slowness on the overworld map, as well as some eighty percent of Lucia's spells being Mystic Defender.
I dunno, I really didn't like The Silver Star, and thought Silver Star Story was a lot better. I do like Eternal Blue better than Eternal Blue Remix, though.
... as long as, in both cases for the latter game, you just forget about the epilogue. Hated the storyline of the epilogue.
But the SCD Silver Star is a lot shorter than anything else in the main series, if I remember rightly.
Probably not worth the necro, but when you enter the Red Dragon's volcano, you can save a little time by casting escape dungeon or using the item for it. It teleports you to the next room as opposed to where you actually enter. This is probably true of other dungeons as well, I just happened to discover this by accident.
Depend of which Lunar game you're talking about...
-Lunar 1 : Silver Star Story (Genesis)
-Lunar 1 : Silver Star Story Complete (PSX) [Remake of Lunar 1]
-Lunar Legend(GBA) [Re-remake of Lunar 1]
-Lunar: Silver Star Harmony (PSP) [Rere-remake of Lunar 1]
-Lunar 2 Eternal Blue (Genesis)
-Lunar 2 : Eternal Blue Complete (PSX) [Remake of Lunar 2]
-Lunar Walking School (Game Gear) [Lunar 1 spin off]
-Magic School Lunar! (Saturn) [Remake of Lunar Walking School]
-Lunar: Dragon Song/Genesis (DS) [Complete other game]
Anything, on Genesis, GBA, Game Gear and possibly DS should run fine. As for PSX, a testrun with psxjin might be required, to make sure you won't have any bad surprise. As for PSP+Saturn, definitely not yet.
I would be so happy to see TASes of TSS and EB for SegaCD, and could probably help with minor details once WIPs came out.
If the step counter is found to work like it does in Dragon Warrior, TSS should be fairly trivial to TAS. If it's like Final Fantasy instead, it'll be a lot less pretty but still easy.
For what it's worth, I started working on this (Lunar 1 SegaCD) about a week ago. Random number stuff has been figured out, and step counting methods + encounter skips too. Expect a WIP in a few days time.
Cool! I recently took this game apart a bit while working on a patch to revert the difficulty increases and other changes in the US version. It sounds like you've already figured out the useful stuff, but my notes are here if you want to look through them. Sorry they're so messy -- they were only really meant for my personal use.
For that matter, are you using the US or Japanese version? The difficulty changes in the US version are quite tame compared to what happened to other games in the series, but some of the bosses do have significantly higher HP (especially the Black Dragon). For a TAS, I'd expect boss battles to basically come down to repeatedly casting the same spells until the boss dies, which would make the Japanese version slightly less repetitive and more entertaining IMO. Your call, though.
I'm using the Japanese version. Will take a look at your notes.
EDIT: Ah nice, there is the encounter rate! Wanted that so badly for my lua script but Trace Logger/Debugger broken on BizHawk.
