Snoopy for C64 is a game for the C64 where you play as Snoopy in a C64 game.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Bizhawk 2.3.1

Comments

a pretty simple concept for a game, you have a character basically going from the edge of the screen to the other while dodging obstacles.
every time you complete a loop of this game, the speed increases a bit, it stops increading after the 9th loop, where I assume the speed value is at 0, the slowest it can get. (before you ask, no I'm not doing that loop, I dont think anyone would want that).

Stage by stage comments

Look Out Snoopy

just a simple jump over a ledge.

Jumping Snoopy

all you do here is jump over volcanoes I guess.

Take Care Snoopy

I have to jump over the black bars as running into those will kill me.

Good Luck Snoopy

here I just get to the middle and jump over the moving triangle.

Beware Snoopy

some skulls I assume that I just try to jump over or get around.

It's Possible Snoopy

same thing as take care snoopy, only the logs move the other direction

Up You Go Snoopy

to make the elevator move, you have to be standing in a specific spot.

You Can Do It

I try and stay on the moving platforms as long as possible to keep my speed up.

Lasers

I have to wait for the 2nd laser to go away as I cant make it far enough to bypass it, same for the 3rd laser.

More Lasers

I just jump at the last frame you an avoid the lasers at.

It's Easy

I wait until the orange boxes move out of the way, then jump over the triangles.

Good Dog Snoopy

here I try to jump over the falling spots as closley as possible, I cant make it past the 2nd one right away and have to wait.

It's Invisible

just jump over the invisible objects.

Catch It

for this one, I have to actually hit the moving object to beat the level.

Be Careful

a platform that just turns on and off when it wants to, timing jumps right will make me get past it.

No Inspiration

no

Figure It

for this one, the platform will only move if you jump (in later stages I have to jump more as snoopy goes too fast to get the shortest jump distance needed)

Another Level

just avoid the lines

Where is Snoopy?

he's here, just invisible when you get close to the edge.

At Night

After this level, the game will start getting faster until loop 9 is done.

Comments

Big Shoutout to DrD2K9 for helping me figure out how to set up for C64.

ThunderAxe31: Judging.
ThunderAxe31: File replaced with a 131 frames improvement.
I can't see any obvious possible improvement, and it seems that there is no harder loop available.
While this movie features superhuman gameplay, I have to note that it's still very basic and repetitive all the time, which is unavoidable due to the simplicity of the game. Accepting for Vault.

I grew up on this computer and I never heard of this game. Well, its start of slow and gets faster and faster...which turns in the the entertainment that I vote yes for. GG on the first C64 game TAS bro.
I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? NYMX: I'm not playing a game, I'm TASing. SOYZA: Oh...so its not a game...Its for real? ---- Anybody got a Quantum computer I can borrow for 20 minutes? Nevermind...eien's 64 core machine will do. :) ---- BOTing will be the end of all games. --NYMX

In level 5, couldn't you have started the jump over the last skull (at 1:20) from more to the left? I haven't tried it out myself though, because I haven't set up bizhawk for c64.

Wow. I'm generally a fan of Radarsoft, but this game is pretty bad by their standards, and that horrible rendition of Scott Joplin isn't helping. Still, it's a quality run, and seeing it become progressively faster is funny. Yes vote. Somebody should run Eindeloos...

I was so ready to vote meh on this run, but it kept getting faster, and faster until it entered the realm of ridiculous. Great work on achieving the humanly impossible. That's what we look for here. Yes vote!

Im pretty sure I tried that but it had no real difference, although I could check it again later today.

alright so it seems that it is a bit faster to do that, so I went ahead and applied that improvement. also ThunderAxe31 told me about some more improvements that I completly missed, one being that you can sometimes jump across both platforms in level 20, so in total, this is a 131 frame improvement. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/53976040414975506

What I dont understand is why this took so many rerecords.. I mean my driver 2 tas took less than 7k rerecords and that game is longer and very difficult to optimize. Although the run is far from perfect, you can see the effort.

Just because a game looks simple or is short doesn’t mean rerecords will also be small.

I hated this game as a kid. I loved it being destroyed.
