Well, here it is. The first GBA CV submission.:) This game is definately my favorite GBA CV installment, and is just behind SotN as my favorite Castleroid. The game is plays like a non linear oldschool CV game. The music is also really nice. It's mostly remixes.
The game itself is pretty difficult, but you wouldn't know if you haven't played it by watching this. I play through the game normally while abusing the DSS glitch.(more on that later.) Theres only really one sequence break you can do and thats going straight to camilla after you break the statue rather then going and purifying the water.
This lets me skip 2 Bosses which is always nice. There's two DSS's I use through out this run. The first is Pluto + Griffon which lets me move double my speed. This lets me get around very fast with the Dash boots. The other I use which I use for totally destroying bosses is Pluto + Black Dog. This lets me transform into a skeleton that does massive damage. (More on that later too.)
  • Recorded on Nitsuja's VBA patch. (Any version should work)
  • Abuses Programming errors in the game.
  • Takes damage to save time.
  • Manipulates Luck.
  • The DSS glitch:
Okay so I abuse this a lot in this run. I'll explain the glitch briefly. Basicially, if you have 1 legit card combo you can use every single card in that game as if you had it! (I don't know how Konami missed this, but whatever it's neat regardless.) You simply activate your DSS and before it's completely activated you go back to the DSS menu and select a card combo you don't have. There you have It, It's that simple.
  • The Skeleton AKA the Bonenator:
Okay so your wondering how I lay waste to the bosses so fast with that big bone? In Skeleton form you normally launch really puny damage small bones, BUT you have a small chance to launch a big bone that just destroys. I obviously manipulate that small chance every time.:)
  • Notes and points of intrest:
  • Sorry about the lag..when Nitsuja fixed the lag I had a lot of my run and didn't want to start over at that point. The lag really isn't that bad either. It's not as bad as Metroid: Zero Mission. I plan on redoing this on the fixed version but not for awhile.
  • If your wondering why I visit saves so frequently It's so I can refill my HP/MP. I timed all the saves so I don't use it more than needed.
  • Running through enemys with my super speed is faster than avoiding them. In some cases I might have to jump over them though or maybe slide due to the circumstance at the time.
  • Sliding is the fastest way of transportation until I get my Dash boots.
  • I had to use the save right before the Golem boss in the machine tower twice one before so I didn't run out of MP for my Super speed, and one after so I can reach the chapel save which is far away. I tested it abunch and no matter what I did I couldn't reach it. Though, by using the golem save again it let me skip the first chapel save which is much more out of the way than the second is.
  • I don't grab any equipment in this run because: 1. The only equipment that's not out of the way isn't worth the extra menu time equiping it. It's like a extra 10 STR which doesn't mean much. 2. I think it looks more impressive in this difficult game. :)
  • MP potions sadly couldn't find a place in my run.:( The monsters were either out of the way or would take time to kill.

Bisqwit: It looks very speedy! Queuing for publication :)
Ps: THAN. THAN for comparisons. THAN. THEN is for consequences. Remember, THAN. Faster THAN.

Just the sheer speed of this run is awesome. That combined with the movements and stunts pulled off makes this even more awesome. I especially liked the shortcuts used with the wall jump. I'm not so familiar with the game that I could say if the route and/or movements used were the fastest possible, but I trust the judgement of the author. Apart from playing, the game features a very good soundtrack (Observation room music rocks) and good visuals. A very entertaining package indeed. I see no reason why this shouldn't be published. An easy yes.

Holy crap how the hell could Konami make such a heinous error!! YOU MANIPULATED IT FLAWLESSLY! I nearly vomited from the speed and just imagining if it was IRL. And the odd lag? I'd hype it as selective bullet time ^^ I nearly beat this game once, and then my save file got corrupt.. this was vindication and damned fast at that! But now... is the Magician much different to that there may be a speedrun for Magician as well... or is it just different DSS cards, etc.? Definitely gets a plus vote from me ^^ Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

The magician just has lower hp/attack stats, and higher mp/magic stats. It also starts with all the DSS cards unlocked, which is rather irrelevant in this case. =)

Hi, I voted meh on this, because while it's very well played and the game looks quite nice too, I somewhat would have more liked to see you not just running through all the enemies. While I understand that this would have been slower, it somewhat removes the movies entertainment value - for me at least. This is very much IMHO, but I had to vote meh none the less. I'd love to see someone finding a way of beating this game as fast as OgreSlayeR did, but without taking that much damage by just running through all the enemies. Whishful thinking. I know. Philip

Eh, for this game taking no damage would be very impressive, but I don't think impressive enough to compensate for several minutes' extra time, which it looks like it'd be. Still, the DSS glitch is impressive enough, so there's really no need for extra "wow" effect. Yes vote, which doesn't matter since it's already on queue.

In this run, taking damages is actually harder than avoiding them as every risk must be calculated and you use avery bit of life the game give you. I Vote Yes. good job!

Agreed, the way that he got down to basically 1 HP in the underground waterway, and then later ended up beating hte game with nearly no life left, was very impressive. Definite yes vote.

Voted yes because the run was entertaining and killing everything with the skeleton form was really funny. I basically agree with everyone else on the damage/kills issue. If Ogreslayer took more time to kill things, the run wouldn't look as fluent. Also, like gather said, the damage was very well-calculated. Off topic: Prower, you're alive?!?! Where have you been? Why aren't you working on X3? I hope I didn't scare you off with my criticism, I would really like to see more.

The only Castlevania game that I have ever actually played through and i've been playing this game a lot the past 2 weeks since im trying to complete every mode possible. I've easily wasted over 24hours of gameplay and when i see someone play it in under 24 minutes it sure does make me stand in awe and watch the masterful play and planning. I really loved the shortcuts you took with walljumping, never would've thought those were possible! Also how you handled the Underground Waterway was really a joy to watch. I thought you would use the unicorn+pluto DSS there, but you just ran through the water taking damage like it was nothing :) And speaking of accurately calculating the damage! The battle with Hugh was a pleasant surprise also, because i thought you couldn't bone him fast enough and you would need to switch back to human and dodge his attacks, it was close though! Overall a excellent submission, there were a few points that stroke me as odd, but most of them are quite trivial and im sure that you had your reason for them now that i think about it.
