I have a substantial library of games on both Steam and GOG. All else being equal, which distribution would be best suited for TASing? The kneejerk answer is "Definitely GOG because they're all DRM-free," but what about if the Steam version doesn't implement any DRM?

DRM-free is fine regardless of distribution, we handle both Steam and GOG games equally.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

there are plenty of Steam versions of games that work just fine with libTAS, but some Steam games will not work at all. iirc it's almost guaranteed that all DRM-Free games will work more easily than Steam versions.
