Post subject: Problems with the Arkanoid video?

I can't open the Arkanoid video. Any movie player I try to open it in immediately crashes. If I try to open it in WMP, both WMP and the explorer shell crash. If I so much as right click the file in explorer, both explorer and the explorer shell crash. I'm using Windows XP. None of the 20 or so other movies I've downloaded from Biqwit's site cause any problems whatsoever. Has anyone else experienced these problems, or is it possible I somehow got a bad download? Doesn't bittorrent automatically check the integrity of the files it downloads? Any help anyone can give me is greaty appreciated.

I think it has to do with recording with some new update of the xvid codec. Have you tried the Battletoads and Dragon warrior video? I had the same problem with those.

As "cat" already has mentioned, it is probably a codec problem. Download the newest XviD-Codec. You could also download ffdshow |Battery|

XviD viewing problems can often be solved by viewing the video with the DivX codec instead. The only way I know of doing this (unless the DivX codec has some option to "grab" XviD streams for itself, which I doubt) is to change the FourCC code of the AVI file with a hex editor. Open the AVI file with a hex editor. Near the beginning of the file there should be four characters which read "XVID". Change them to "DX50". Play the AVI normally. It should work now. (The difference now is that the player is using the DivX codec to decode the stream instead of the XviD codec. Their format is compatible and they can decode each other's data.)

On that note, those without hex-editing skills can use the "Nic's Mini AviC FourCC Changer" provided with most XviD distributions. I hope that helps someone.
