You say yours stinks? Haha, it's just unoptimized, but I've learn several things from it. Besides, it's a good thing you had enough patience to finish the game.

Thanks a lot.

I know this may sound crazy, but if you use the tap-dancing glitch in the area where the 4 pipes are (in the peaceful village), the big blocks on top of them vanish! Benefit of this: An ability to change the time of day right from the get go (sort of).

Small hint: you should make better use of sliding (B, next frame Down) to cover short distances, because, unlike simple walking or running, it accelerates immediatly. In the first level of your WIP where turned into ball Wario you entered the door by walking. I didn't test it, but it could be faster by sliding. And you can cancel a slide by pressing A for one frame (you then have a lag of two frames). Your WIP is very good. I tried the first level and was much slower. Has walking the same speed as running?!

Rridgway : I don't really understand about what glitch you're talking about, but I dislike glitching, so I won't try this. Apologies. Yrr : I try every move everywhere, so every time I don't use the sliding, it's because it's slower to do so. Actually, I realized I might have lost some frames doing a 2nd slide since the lag after cancelling the slide got Wario slower than if he would have just run. Sometimes I can't explain why sometimes sliding looks wayyy faster than walking, but isn't. Thank you very much for the hint and the compliment, I might get back on the run now. EDIT : Oh and what do you mean by running and walking? EDIT 2 : Here is about lots of things I have written about speed and all that, you can also see the input display of my WIP. Actually, I think I got wrong about the sliding, but it may be useful once I have the garlic powerup, since your slide gets faster then.

Walking is simply pressing and holding Left or Right. Running is B. I could also say dash attack or whatever. At that place I mentioned before you could save 2 frames actually.

Well, to answer your question in particular, dashing running or whatever has an instant speed bad in the beggining, good in the end, walking has the same instant speed (except for the acceleration), and overall using running might be better. The problem is : it depends of the situation. Running is faster than walking, but only if you can jump before having to stop, or else it will be slower. Anyway, that improvement is a nice find! I'm surprised I missed that one, I thought I had tested it before. Good one, and thanks you noticed the mistake.

The tap-dancing glitch is a bug where you use auto fire A in places where the camera height can be changed, and Wario warps downwards. Anyway, Qlex, if you "dislike glitching", get liking. Most of the runs on tasvideos use some form of glitch, and to ignore a massively timesaving bug (Estimates range from 1 minute saved to an hour) would get you crucified.

ok, I just thought using these glitches in WL3 could save too much time and would make the TAS end up being boring or marked as "glitched". I knew about that glitch, I don't really know what treasure I could get early, but I know at 100% the walkthrough so if you know some treasure possibly glitch-able don't hesitate to tell me, I might change my mind.

The tap dancing glitch seems to be able to cause certain programming to activate (or deactivate). I do not know if this could apply to the temple (Activate final boss battle (Also, if you enter the boss battle prematurely to the getting of Out of the Woods Blue treasure, Wario gains all of his powers), or Out of the Woods (Opens tree), but I will keep testing for it.

I heard that in that City level you can get the better-running powerup at the beginning.

Which one? Anyway, the better running powerup is in the Tower of Revival not The peaceful village or A town in chaos.

Okay, I didn't have a lot of time to get to that TAS, fortunately I've found new strategies for me to say that my WIP is really unoptimized. I may describe things about it later. Oh and I've found that the tap-dancing glitch may not be useful until now since I need the blue "desert ruins" treasure. Here you go, I was just testing the tap-dancing glitch when I realized I was late.

Hey, now do you understand why this run is infuriatingly hard to TAS?

lol, it's not that hard to TAS, it doesn't require luck manipulation, the stages are short enough for me to like TASing this game, and you can check everything you're doing, even in invisible Wario mode. I'll just be taking my time though, I don't want to lose my enthusiasm and end up stopping the TAS at 50% done. EDIT : Oh and the new strategy to use is : Do not fall from a ladder using forward+B, just climb on the top of it then leave. Actually, testing people might think that it's slower, but it IS faster as long as you stop climbing just before you reach the top, because Wario will be in a position where he will automatically leave the ladder. There might be other applications of that "unstable" position of the ladder, but this trick can save from 1 to 4 frames each time you do that.

Ok, had to work at school, so here's an unfinished WIP of the next stage. Shame on me. I have discovered many cool things though, so I bring you this savestate so you can start the movie at desert ruins. And heeeere is the map, the maaaaap. EDIT : High school's got me so there's definitely no update for now. Sorry.

I've noticed that this game has yet to get a TAS even though the other 3 games in the Wario Land series have gotten one. Is there a reason why this game is so overlooked? IMO it's a great puzzle/platformer.

The first one hasn't been done.
Why, oh, why do I even try to understand my own species?

Merged thread into previous thread on game, so you can get some context. EDIT: It looks like ISM's TAS is fairly recent (even though I can't watch it here). There'd probably be interest in seeing a TAS of the game submitted. EDIT2: I figured out how to watch that TAS from here, and it is awesome. We must see a version of this submitted!

I watched a bit of the TAS last night (part 2) and I was suprised there were glitches for a game that looked very polished. That 'wall jump' and the unexpected jump spam camera glitch did suprise me. I should have watched the first part and see if there were any other sequence breaks. I wonder if those glitches work on the prequel Wario Land 2 since 3 uses a modified Wario Land 2 engine (from jumps to dashes and damage boosting).

Wario Land 3 only came out on GBC. Wario Land 2 is the only game of the GB Wario Land series to be out on both GB and GBC.
