What Morimoto originally did with Super Mario Bros. 3 I don't think was expected by anyone. And of course Genisto improved upon it. http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?id=14 Edit: I'd nominate for a runner up Genisto's Bionic Command run. http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?id=268 I never thought the game could be glitched out like that and didn't think we'd see the old run time be beaten by so much.

Genisto's Power Blade (#193), because it improved by almost 2 minutes a movie that had seemed to be only improvable by a few frames.

I second Power Blade. EDIT: Bisqwit's first short Rygar movie also fits in well here, all the glitches shocked the heck out of me at the time. EDIT #2: Here's another good one nobody's mentioned...Walker Boh's first Castlevania 2 movie. He had only made one tiny post to hint toward this, long before it was completed, and I'm sure nobody knew a full run could be improved that much... -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

I would have said [323]Jecy's Batman, but it was already foreshadowed by Foda which decreased the surprise. I also want to say that the dramatically shortened [83]Goonies movie was quite a surprise, too. There have been a couple of [278][237][125][18]Metroid movies that have grand surprised me - mostly because of the improvement that was thought impossible. Something similar could be said of [317][312][201][196]Rygar, [309][10][234][99]Super Mario Bros 2 and [263][243][242]Super Mario Bros, too. I have trouble choosing a single one.

http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?id=242 Mana's Super Mario Bros. I know this movie was unexpected by me.

Hi, I'd nominate the Zelda 2 glitched run. It came out of nowhere and did use tricks I did not know even the slightest thing about. Philip

A lot of nominations here, but very hard to say what was clearly nominated. Everyone who made some nominations, please clarify your nominations and give links to the movie(s) you want to nominate.

Tough category, since so many players post their runs out of the blue in order to accentuate effect. I know I've done it. I think I'd nominate Jackal. Great run, played well, nobody saw it coming. http://tasvideos.org/queue.cgi?id=360 I wasn't around before this video came out- was Ironsword expected? http://tasvideos.org/queue.cgi?id=495
