Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.6.3 (BSNESv115+ core)
  • Playaround
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • no big deal
  • just trying to improve the most popular TAS in history over here
  • just, y'know, casual

Comments

In progress, since there will be spoilers and stuff!

Cancelling. The feedback in the thread instantly mirrored my own personal thoughts on the run and I knew it wasn't going to get any better from here. I'll be attempting a third version.

Wasn't that funny but it has some mild moments. The humor isnt really that deep or well thought out, kinda just feels like its just trying to be humor for the sake of being humor.

To be honest, while I liked the initial WIP that was posted on Discord the other week, I found this a bit underwhelming. I liked the idea where the answers tried to tell a story over the course of the run, but the major downside is that it takes up a lot of answers for just trying to set up the story, and therefore spends a lot of time not actually making jokes or being funny. Unlike the rapid-fire comedy of the published TAS, a lot of the run (especially early on) is just kind of trudging through lines that kind of set up a narrative but lack any sort of satisfying payoff. Also, a lot of times when the text was delayed for one reason or another, it just felt annoying how slow the answers were entered. It makes some sense in "context", but ultimately it's just padding which makes the excitement wear (even more) thin. I'm honestly not really sure where it ended up being so much different between the initial WIP and this submission. But I don't think this is the giant-killer of comedy that it needs to be, in order to have a shot at publication. No vote.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

I also preferred the WIP for the most part. There's probably some references I missed so I wanna wait for the submission comments. Couple of thoughts though:
  • This TAS clearly has to be viewed as a sequel to the existing TAS, because of the references to it
  • There are also references to the TASVideos site redesign
Both these make me wonder how well the TAS would age on the site, if it were published to obsolete the existing movie. Edit: Oops, I'm too late. Hope to see another attempt at this though :D

There will be a third version, don't worry. Admittedly, this run was a lot more frustrating to make than my original test run, but through the course of making it I learned a lot more about the game and how it operates, so a V3 should not only be easier to make, but funnier and better paced. If V3 ends up going south too, then I'll just resync the published run to BizHawk as a """V4""". Ideally I'd be working with Heisanevilgenius directly for things like replacing the single offensive word, but regardless of what happens with """V4""", it'll be solely under his name and presented simply as modernizing a poorly emulated TAS to something much more accurate.

Well, I enjoyed it for what it was, regardless of the previous one. Thanks for making me howl at moments of genuine brilliance.
