Another person and I are working on a tas and we have been wondering about how to get a better community response to our tas. Specifically whether to use a death to skip a large portion of a level or to go through it deathless. Typically which is looked upon more favorably?

Unfortunately this probably depends on the specific game and its community more than a generality. I would expect that death skips would probably more favorably looked upon here than in general game commnuities or their associated speedrun commnuities. But that doesn't mean that those communities would be against death skips. It's just going to be a subjective situation for each individual game.

It really depends on the situation itself, but I would generally say to just go for what's fastest. The only issue I would see is if taking a death makes you miss out on some really cool strategy or trick that you won't see otherwise in the TAS, but that's rare. Even then, such a time trade-off is rarely justified. If it just skips one level out of many, just go for it.

Well, if deathless means dodging large amounts of bullets and/or enemies on-screen, then I personally would consider that more entertaining. But I can't speak for "typically" or for "community response". It probably highly depends on the game.

Ok thank you for the responses. There is not a much of a community since it is a relatively new homebrew so I was thinking more for the tas community. For which I understand that it depends on the content being cut. In this case the content is...mixed. The first half of the cut content is fun to watch imo, but the second half consists of a section with a boring slow character, then having to go through the same exact section yet again with the same character.
