I just played this through in 83 minutes without serious effort. I guess under 65 minutes would be a very good time. Has anyone else tried doing this game? Hmmm. I'm not even sure what "this game" really is. The rom file says: "Wonderboy 5 (MonsterWorld 3) (UE) [!].bin". The title screen says the game is called "Wonderboy in Monster World". I've also heard of a game called Wonderboy in Monster Land. Is it the same game? Finally, I saw some screenshots of the same game with different player character. I go crazy with these things... Does someone have an idea what would be the best version of the game (rom) to use? The one I have looks good, though. I checked Gamefaqs site, but didn't find any new information about the game. There are some secret rooms and stuff, but I think they won't save any time. I have not found any glithces at all. So, basically the shortest route is the fastest one. Using the RETURN magic correctly, buing some boots for faster running and finishing the bosses quickly and... that's it I guess. Not so much money collecting after all. How does that sound?

I haven't played any Wonderboy games, but I know this site describes all the games in the series, so that might help you figure it out.

If you would decide to do a timeattack of this game, I would certainly be very much pleased!

I tried too. It's pretty fun game to timeattack. Here's my file played to Sphinx in 26 minutes. Mistakes I made: -Killed few mushrooms for fun :) -Not enough money to buy Ladder Boots in first visit (this slowed down much) -Didn't visit Inn before going to Atlantis and Return brought me back to home Aqfaq I hope this helps you. How much faster you did this part of game?

Thank you very much, maTO! Your work looked good and you played amazingly well considering the very low re-record count. I have more than 700 re-records in a minute! You have only 1400 in 26 minutes! Hmm. How were you going to collect all the pygmy equipment (required later in the game), you didn't seem to care about those? Is there some secret way to get them fast or did you just not plan the route correctly? I would not have bought the shell shield. I'm not sure about the knight sword... And the leather boots and marine boots are a bit faster on the land than the basic boots, aren't they? I have tested collecting 30 coins as fast as possible to buy the leather boots near the beginning. Does anyone want to host the WIP file? Sorry, I don't know exactly how much faster I can make this, but if I really start recording something, you helped me a lot because I can compare my route to your's! And yes, this game is fun. :)

And also a big classic :) Hope you will begin timeattacking this game.

Thanks! Yeah, I forgot the Pygmy Sword, but that was just testing :) If more people are doing timeattack and comparing, the faster good results can be achieved, I think. Knight Sword kills those aboriginals in forest much faster than normal sword. What else weapon would you use? Aqfaq, get an account from Freewebs. It's fast to register and good for files like these.

Thanks again, maTO! The first 3 minutes might look something like this: eh, look below... There is heavy luck manipulation in the coin collecting. Can somebody prove me it can be done faster?

Don't worry, if it was only 3 minutes you lost (or did you just compress it wrong?). You don't necessarily need to compress it if it's a small file. I've lost up to 10 hours in my SF1-timeattack, which is near to end, but still I don't feel like I would like to finish it :( Btw, I updated my file. It now gets two Pygmy eq but is still a bit faster than previous. Could save perhaps 10seconds with luck manipulation in coins.

Ok, so you managed to download it, but failed to playback it correctly? Here it is, I try not to compress it because it's a small file. EDIT: Removed a purposeless link.

Looks very good! Those early boots certainly speeds up walking. Are you going to collect 300 gold for Knight Sword and Ladder Boots? Get as much as possbile from 1st boss.

Thanks! I'm not yet sure how to use the gold. If I don't buy the knight sword, I can buy the Marine Boots earlier and they speed up walking a lot. In my test run (not recorded), I didn't buy the Knight Sword and the 2nd boss fight lasted very very long. One possibility is to collect enough money to buy all as soon as possible: Knight Sword, Ladder Boots and Marine Boots. I'm not sure, but they might be the only things that are worth buing. So, no need to collect gold after that. The problem now is, should I collect the 1st heart container? I think: yes. Collecting it costs only 3 seconds. Those seconds can very probably be gained back later as I can take a bit more damage here and there. All other heart containers require more time to get. If I have time to continue doing this, I will update the file sometimes.

Hum, when I read this thread's name.. I thought about the one where you're turned into a dragon ( the dragon's trap ) after the end of the wonderboy you just play here... And then your quest is to defeat some bosses that will turn you into other "animals" until you beat the last one that will turn you back into a human ! Well, this one is a classic to me, I really loved it. So I'm happy someone is interested about it. :] I'm gonna watch your try soon for sure !

Updated again! 43 minutes to beginning of Cloud Castle. I hope watching my play saves you time Aqfaq. Some tips: - Don't take Shabo in Childam. He's cute but useless. Save 6 seconds. - Keep your return point always in Purapil Inn. After getting Legendary Sword in Draconia it saves 23 seconds for you.

Great work maTO! I'll keep following your progress to enhance my own. Currently, I'm trying to kill the 1st boss as fast as I can while getting as much gold as possible. Being perfect here is pretty difficult, but... I seem to have started this project now, so the result is not going to be any slower than necessary. :)

My first and probably only version is complete! 51:06:60 So it's way under your "good time of under 65 minutes", Aqfaq :D I expect you to drop off 3-5 minutes. If more, then I'm really positively surprised. I now found more mistakes: - No need to take Elixir in pyramid - Didn't use all the Power spells in Demon King.

Yeah, the first estimation is always vey very wrong. My second estimation is that my movie will be about 5-7 minutes shorter than yours, but it is a well known fact that the estimations always kinda suck. ;) Thank you very much for showing me some things that were not worth doing. Hopefully you had lots of fun.

45-minutes-run would be nice to see. And it sure was fun to play this game. Now I must find something as fun to play :(

How stupid of me. After Demon King, what was I thinking when I returned back to Purapril Inn? I lost another 37 seconds in that... Perhaps you then can be able to take that 7 minutes from my time.

I have obtained the Pygmy Sword. At this point my movie is 3 minutes faster than maTO's version. I did not buy the Knight Sword and getting any shield seems to make the movie slower. Sorry, I'm not going to update the WIP file. You'll have to wait for the final product. ;) I still haven't found any glitches at all! Here are some things I have not tested yet: 1. Get to the pyramid without Oasis Boots 2. Skip some animated sequence (after killing the Demon King for example) Anyone interested trying these?
