Driar is a simple homebrew platformer where your goal is collect all the stars in each of the 38 levels.
I noticed some improvements in routing in a few of the levels, so am submitting this improvement. Resyncing cost ~5 frames.

feos: Claiming for judging.
feos: Fixed movie metadata.
feos: This run is using the official release of the game, and even though there's a bit more lag in non-gameplay sections and one level has slightly different behavior, there's no gameplay benefit in either version as far as TASing is concerned, so let's use the officially distributed one.

EZGames69: Processing...
feos: Fixing metadata harder, since bizhawk fails to realize it needs to compare MD5 not SHA1 even though it's stated right in the header.

- New Alyosha TAS --> Great! - As I always say, anyone who improves my TAS is free to be the main author, so it's up to you (not that you would need any more points (edit) once since you already transcended as a TAS god :) ) - Will watch it in emu later before voting. - Resync cost 5 frames: I only knew about + 2 frames I wrote in previous submission text and this post https://tasvideos.org/Forum/Topics/18797?CurrentPage=3&Highlight=507317#507317 What is the extra 3 frames? I mean I guess it's because of better emulation I'm just interested in details. Random: In the previous published TAS encode on youtube, a commenter suggested a drinking game: 1. Pause the video before a level starts 2. Try to guess the route 3. Drink when the route is different than what you thought I'm not suggesting this game for health reasons :)

I'm not sure exactly, there were a couple spots with extra lag, and 2 stages desynced as I was progressing through the game, but I wasn't really keeping an exact log, 5 is just an approximate number.

Can't get this to sync on 2.8 or 2.7, the ROM matches.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Syncs on 2.8, no issues:

Turns out the movie header is completely wrong, it mentioned the ROM filename used in the previous submission that this one doesn't sync on, and the hash does not belong to any existing ROM at all, since the fm2 this was converted from stores hash differently. It syncs on the ROM hosted here http://www.driar.se/

Saves 15 frames by not resyncing on the wrong ROM https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/637875429600564873

Is it "wrong" when the one hosted on the site is probably the true final revision version? As the one hosted on the site, is the same one hosted on Romhacking.net for instance, but not the one found on the nesdev subforums.

I mean DriarNROM(UE).nes used in the previous submission is newer judging by file metadata, it's mentioned in fm2 metadata, linked from the submission, and didn't require adding delay.

I'd be fine with using the version from the nesdev thread, but it seems like that version is not the author's original work. I guess it's recompiled with different settings? Should the author's version should be preferred?

Yeah your version is official actually, lidnariq just made a custom build that fixed some bug and ended up lagging less as MESHUGGAH mentioned.

We are also making TAS for this game, because I've been making contra before, this project was pushed back by us. Our current progress is stage 25, we used FCEUX and the same ROM as MESHUGGAH's own TAS used before. The number of frames we ended the 25th stage was 11897. We do not intend to affect the publication of this submission. But it seems we used a wrong ROM now. I haven't carefully compared the difference between the two ROMs, but I think our work should be suspended until we determine the ROM we need to use.

The difference is you can't go left here until 1 frame later, like there's an invisible block or a collision with the block at the bottom of the screen. In the NROM version you can go to the left so you can turn right faster, gaining speed and falling to the lower platform earlier. Also in the NROM version you resurrect after death faster. The rest is level loading time difference.

Fine. Our TAS can be well synchronized on the new Rom. in the next step, we only need to carefully check the details.

Looking forward the next Driar TAS as well! Game versions - Original release 2012 February driar.se - lidnariq's bugfix and improvements (SGROM to NROM) 2012 November The latter is also the version included within the multi-cartridgeAction 53 Function 16 Volume ONE Streemerz Bundle http://forums.nesdev.com/download/file.php?id=503 So I would choose the latter one as suggesting the preferred version. edit: Note that it might not sync on the multi-cart version, as Streemerz TASes also don't sync there

Ah yes, "imporvement". The evil and sexy step-sibling of the Improvement. (Yes, there was a typo in the description and I made a joke over it.)
