With the GTA: San Andreas run approaching uploaded status over on the SDA, it made me feel like playing some good old-fashioned run-n-gun action. Having no PS2, GTAA is the closest I can come. I think the most important thing you can have for this is a map of the city and the quickest routes to get to wherever you need to be. A good knowledge of the back alleys and shortcuts. I don't really see weapons being that big an issue... the fighting system in the game is... painful, at best. Imagine Smash TV with looser controls and you'd have GTAA's gun/melee combat system. It's not a pretty sight. I've never gotten terribly deep into the game, but I don't remember seeing any situations where you couldn't just run over people you're supposed to 'fight'... Anyone have deeper knowledge of the game? I'm actually kind of surprised that there's been no talk of the game yet, as big as the GTA series is.

I had no idea there was a GTA game for the GBA... Well, now I am interested...

Aye, there is. It's a top-down view with REALLY horrible sprites for the humans. The cars seem of the 'Spy Hunter' style variety... And the weapons all appear to lob Nerf Balls. But it's fun. Somehow. X.x

Been toying with the game some more. And good god, the second half of the city is HARDER to drive in than the first! x.x At least with the first you get nice, long, WIDE roads. The other one has narrow, two-lane hellholes and tons of turns. It's NOT good and NOT easy to get around quickly in. The shotgun IS the best weapon for close combat, it seems. I'm partial to the flamethrower for midrange, but it's not really practical since it takes forever to get going. And at the point in the game I'm at, the cops are almost as fast, if not AS, as Mike is. Most goons are pretty quick now, too. The first city isn't really too hard, gameplay-wise. Everything's fairly straightforward and consists mostly of fetch quests. Or delivery quests. Second half has more "Go here, shoot these guys, then punch Guy X within an inch of his life to continue"-type missions. I dunno. If I don't find a faster way to get around town, I'll drop this one from my potential list of games I say I'll run by get too frustrated to actually do. >>; ... *cough* ANYWAY...I'm still not entirely sure what the hell the best car that isn't the Formula 1 is. It seems you might be able to get ahold of it around the time you start working for the Jamaican dude, since he mentions it before the racing mission. As a side note, I have to wonder if Car Bomb abuse can be worked in. The things seem to have ridiculous power, as would be expected. And you can grab the things any time after your first mission using them. I'm assuming that any mission where you need to take out a group of thugs would best be done with a car bomb. But that would require a bit of manipulation, both in-game and otherwise, to line them up and get them close enough to the vehicle. >>

I agree with you that the weapons system isn't top notch. Best weapon in the game would be the flamethrower... It simply gets the most done.. the strafing system, it's the only game where i've seen strafing work so well. This game is nothing short of amazing. Just look at this screenshot or even this This game, beneath the terrible chippy sound curse of the gameboy advance, is gold. Actually there's one song that goes "let me show you how it's done" over and over with a guitar.. that's the best song in the game. This is nothing compared to anything harshly extreme like Cory Hart's Sunglasses at Night or Mr. Mister's Broken Wings, but in any case, this game focuses on gameplay, defending the rights of smokers, and something about getting vengeance for Vinnie. It's a deep quest, and a time attack would be fun.
