I don't have the time to dedicate to a tool assisted speed run but would love to see one made of this game that used the zapper. I used to play it quite often as a kid and would find it ridiculously interesting to see someone breeze through it. :)

I don't think there are any NES emulators that can record shooting with the zapper gun.

Nintendulator does record Zapper input, or so I've heard. But it is not accepted at this site at the moment. In any case, even though I have fond memories of this game, I think it's a very bad choice for a timeattack. Mostly it would consist of shooting things that are barely or not at all visible and a flashfest at the bosses. I cannot see it being as fun to watch as to play.

I already did speed runs of Duck Hunt and To The Earth. They were boring as hell. You can shoot at one object the frame it appears, and another on the very next frame. Nothing survives long enough to be seen. It requires no skill and serves absolutely no purpose.

Sorry for pumping this 5 year old topic, but I think the current version for recording zapper inputs is FCEUX 2.x.x Getting the maximum score is to shoot them all. Shoot the enemies before they go off screen (or far away) and shoot the missiles that's about to hit you. Levels 3 and 4 have rockets, they are faster. Shoot the bosses as fast as you can for the fastest time. In asteroid fields, shoot the asteroids. Only the lower ones can hit you.
