Donkey Kong II Jumpman returns is a rom hack of the original Donkey Kong arcade game. It features 4 completely new levels as well as slight remixes to the original 4 levels.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: libTAS 1.4.3/MAME v0.246
  • Commands for libTAS: "donkeykongx -rompath <path to rom file here> -w -skip_gameinfo"
  • Make sure you have the base rom as well

Comments

I don't really have much to say other than a few notes about the movement.
I am able to do stutter step if I press the opposite direction every 6 frames, usually only works on a cycle. There is two types of stutter steppings, one which makes the spam noise and one that's quiet. These don't really change Jumpman's movement speed at all, however it's very useful in RNG manipulation. Whenever I have to manipulate enemy behavior, I can just stop doing the stutter, or even do stutter, to change RNG.
I might think of something else to say later, hope you enjoy.

feos: Claiming for judging.
feos: Cool hack, cool glitch, accepting. Further loops are not required since there's an ending.
fsvgm777: Processing.

Glad to see a run of this game submitted. Yes vote for entertainment. https://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/76571532676876639 Did you confirm that the 5th stage in this movie is done equally fast or faster compared to the one in this input file? Also, there are visibly more preplaced enemies in the 2nd loop. Do you plan to include it in the movie file as well given this?

My stage 5 is faster. I didn’t do two jumps when getting the remaining heart as I would be too far to the right, plus the time it takes for Jumpman to start moving after a jump eats up more frames. I don’t plan on doing a 2nd loop at this time.

What a cool hack! I like all the added (and modified) levels and the new ending. Thanks for introducing us to this. Your movement was clean and the ladder glitch is always fun to see. Voted Yes.

For whatever reason the "Donkey Kong" link in the publication description appears to go to Street Fighter IV for some reason.
