I unfortunately hadn't fully considered there to be such a large difference in emulator versions but I have figured out that the 2 saved frames come from 1.2 adding an extra 2 frames of loads at the very start over 2.8's 1 frame of loads. So yeah, turns out it is just an emulator improvement.

Feeling a little stupid that I managed to miss such a big actual improvement. Turns out it's faster to walk to the bridge and then pause rather than pause from the very beginning which saves a total of 30 frames. Pretty sure there isn't a faster way to get to the end than this. https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638045742254447761

So this is roughly a 28 frame improvement over the previous (excluding emulation differences). Correction. Roughly a 30 frame improvement since you compared to yourself, not the previous publication. I'm glad that you were able to find something out of it where movement is faster than hitting the select early.
