Randomly started playing the game again and found a way to skip the text screens between stages by pressing Start the frame before the load. This saves 164 frames over the current publication. The only text screen that doesn't seem skippable is the first one after loading up the game since we already press Start to start the game (I actually press A but it does the same job).

One strat that may have potential is double jumping which might be able to be used to skip the entire beginning section. I haven't managed to work out exactly how it works but it seems extremely limiting; I've only been able to do it in the outside area.
