Submission Text Full Submission Page
Here it is, my FIRST ever submission on TASVideos. Mario's first game is back on the Game Boy Color with brand-new enchantments and a You vs Boo challenge mode!

Game Objectives

  • Completes the game as fast as possible
  • Doesn't use any warp pipes
  • Skips some cutscenes to save time
  • Emulator I used: BizHawk 2.9.0

Comments

All right, bois, I think it's time I review some levels that can be improved on, but first I'm going to see how I improved the run.

Improvements I Made

Sooooo...in the old run, I didn't have a power-up. NONE. So it takes you a little bit of time to go down a warp-pipe. Using the Fire Flower power-up CAN save you a lot of time and with that equipped, I can go down a warp-pipe as fast as possible. I also heard that if you defeat Bowser with fireballs six times you'll be able to grab the flag in no time as normally, when you don't defeat Bowser with fireballs, it'll waste more time, so there, I defeat him with fireballs six times in some castle levels and touch the axe (without Bowser falling down!) so more time will be saved. I saved some time on 2-4 AND some of the castle levels, so that's pretty much it. :P

Levels That Can Be Improved On

1-4, 2-4 & 3-4

If I hit Bowser with a fireball six times, he would fall down and I'd save more time. Overall it looks pretty good, with the timer being 263.

5-2

Sometimes when you have a power-up, you'll get hit at the very start, so if I made the jump when I touched the first hard block and not enter a water pipe I'll be good.

6-4

Apparently this is hard with Fire Mario, so you HAVE to dodge firebars; if I acted fast, I'll save more time.

Other Comments

There's some of the levels I might improve on, but overall, I got a time of more than nineteen-and-a-half minutes. I'll hope to improve this attempt.

nymx: Claiming for judging.

nymx: First off, welcome OisinFan62 to TASVideos. Its admirable that you have chosen a sought after game, where its been heavily exploited over the past two decades. Just to bring you up to speed, our rules require that any movies submitted must beat all known records. This includes the version, #3416: TheKDX7's GBC Super Mario Bros. Deluxe "warpless" in 18:15.42, submitted by TheKDX7...which is 1 minute and 18 seconds faster. Surprisingly enough, that submission was rejected for not being optimal.
I encourage you to go back and look at the previously rejected submission to get some ideas on what you can do to improve your work. Until then, I am rejecting this submission...for reasons of optimization, especially not beating a previous submission in 2011.

Hello OisinFan62 and welcome to TASVideos. Unfortunately your TAS is slower than the segments that are comparable in the warps version. Please take your time and use the tools available to you in BizHawk and use the userfiles. You'll be able to also compare to the warps Publication as well. Go again when you've optimized all you can.

You can also try to beat the TAS record that I submitted 10 years ago #3416: TheKDX7's GBC Super Mario Bros. Deluxe "warpless" in 18:15.42. It was largely not optimized due to techniques that I had not used and that you can find in the "warps" version that Spikestuff mentioned Good luck and take your time !
