Background

I recently did real-time attempts in this game with the goal to complete a speedrun that included the TAS approach for the final boss fight. However, the method used in #7804: ktwo's NES Dragon's Lair in 06:34.12 turned out to be inconsistent for me in real-time, so I looked into if I could find a different method that was easier to execute. Not only did I find that, but it also led me to finding a method that was 2 game frames (= 10 actual frames) faster than the TAS method.

Run comments

The only difference from #7804: ktwo's NES Dragon's Lair in 06:34.12 is the final boss fight. Instead of entering the fight with a big jump and dealing 6 damage to Singe, I enter the fight with a small jump and only deal 2 damage. However, this improves the timing and provides a better x-position for the rest of the fight. In the end it turned out to be 10 frames faster than in the previous TAS.

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Previous submission was also any%, so I'm removing it on this one...since that is the default submission category.
nymx: These are the type of submissions that I love to see, where the "Digging" starts and frames are found. After having seen a number of sources, on this game's difficulty, it is apparent that it is not so easy to optimize. Good work on figuring out this improvement.
