If that doesn't work you can just use right+left to jump through the wall and land on the other side. I know it works against the first boss.

b: This is actually what I ended up doing, except that you don't fall through the floor...something a little more interesting happens, which I show off. And just to let everyone know, I'll put up my movie of the first two acts soon. It serves as a nice preview, as I saved a total of 206 frames from my previous movie up to this point. I'll also put up Phil's left+right-enabled FCEU, which is needed to play it I believe. -Josh

It worked fine for me, I was running FCEU 98.12 but I don't think it had that patch. This is very interesting, you seem to use the glitch well.

You can do the same thing in Ninja Gaiden 1, and in some places it yields the same result. Although in Ninja Gaiden 1 you just need to jump over the wall instead of through it.

Hey guys, I decided to redo almost the whole thing because I'm doing the opposite of BoltR with this. That is, I aim to kill as many enemies as possible while maintaining speed. It's my own personal preference, plus the ninja doubles allow you to perform a lot of impressive kills from behind you. Right now I'm part of the way through 2-2... I've got a question for everyone. It turns out that you can determine which song plays in 7-2 by skipping the cutscene before it on certain frames; doing it as fast as possible always seems to give me the 2-2 music, to get others you have to wait a few frames. Would you like it if I did this, and if so, which song would you like? I'm leaning toward 1-1 (it really does feel right), but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks, Josh.

In that case the 2-1 music would be the way to go. You can only pick from one of 4 level themes: 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, and 3-2. But I personally don't like that. 1-1 is a good theme that makes a fitting end, especially considering that the original Ninja Gaiden also ends with the first level's music. Still, I'll wait and see what people have to say... -Josh

If it's going to cost you some frames, don't bother. It's not like you're pulling some wacko stunt or anything.

Hmm... I just may do it anyway, and then explain it in the submission comments. It's similar in spirit to Zoizite using suitless Samus in his runs, and I personally find getting a better song to be more entertaining than a different sprite. Ah well, no need to worry yet, the end is quite a ways away... -Josh

The 2-2 music is my favorite in this game, so if that's what you get without delaying, I'd go for that.

I haven't seen the game, but I just listened to the four songs, and I think 2-2 is my favorite right now. But do what you want to. Pick 2-1 if you think it sounds unusual there, or 1-1 if you think revisiting the beginning level music near the end is cool (and I think it is, sometimes).

Don't worry, guys. After a little break, I'm back to working on this and am part of the way through 3-2. It was mainly an aesthetic decision to redo this...I now aim to kill as much stuff as possible, and pull off a lot of cool kills with the ninja doubles. However, I have also made one minor improvement in 2-2 and one in 3-1, both of which are extra uses of left+right. I know there is also a small mistake to fix in 4-1, and a slight improvement in 5-1. So I may better my previous left+right movie by around 20 frames if all goes well... EDIT: Well, this blows. I'm back to having just killed the Act 2 boss again. Apparently, when walljumping up a wall that leads to a boss, it's faster to do it normally than to use left+right to jump through the wall and to the top of the screen. This is only relevant in Acts 2 and 3, but good to know as I made this mistake both times in the previous movie. -Josh

Alright, I'm back to where I was with my last attempt at this, with only Act 7 to go. And I said 20 frames of improvement if all goes well...it actually turned out to be 104 frames faster! Hoping to get this done soon, Josh.

Don't you love when that happens? The 62 I expected in NG1 turned into 100 :D

As for 7-2 music, I personally like 1-1 the best. I may make two versions, one for this site which gets that song and one for Nintendorecords which just skips the cutscene ASAP. And thanks for the comments, guys, this should be done today hopefully! -Josh

Hey guys, just redid 3-2 now and saved exactly 30 frames. This was mostly from grabbing onto the left side of walls (except the one leading to the boss, which is still better to do from the right), and the boss was improved a tad as well. Just to let y'all know, everything up to the first of these walls will be just the same as the last movie. I have looked hard and can't see any improvements to make there. Now comes 4-1 and the moment of truth...you see, in my first version of the glitch run, there was one wall which I could run straight through via the glitch. It's in the room which appears at frame 14386 in the 9:34 run, that very first little wall there. If you'll notice, in that movie I jump to the top of the wall; I just couldn't run through it, no matter what I tried. So now I'm going to give it another shot... EDIT: I am also going to try to figure out the Act 4 boss. In the first glitch run I was able to kill him before his claw even appeared, and I couldn't in the last movie. Maybe the starting placement of your doubles has some luck to it... DUAL EDIT!: Just finished Act 4, 16 frames faster. Got to walk through that wall and kill the boss before the claw appeared. And I am done for the night... -Josh

Ye gods, will this ever end? See, I was watching the NG3 movie again for no particular reason, and looking really closely I noticed that he walljumped to the very top of walls before moving forward. This makes sense as the walljumps are faster vertically than the normal off-the-wall jump. In NG2, if you are able to use left+right, it's best to just jump the minimal amount needed to use it. But if you're climbing a wall from the right and need to go to the left, his method is the best. However, in all of my runs up until now, I didn't do this! Instead I just normal jumped off at the soonest point where I could reach the top with it. So I took a look at the current movie and saw that there were three walls in 3-2 which this would apply to (they're all in the second room). The first of these was done as fast as possible, it turns out, but the other two were not. In testing out his method, I discovered it was 3 frames faster at each of these walls. So now it's redo time yet again...Version 4.5, I guess you could call this. This trick will also come into use in one place in Act 7, so it could mean an improvement of around 9 frames in and of itself...that's huge at this point. So thank you AxeMan, and no I'm not being sarcastic. =) Feeling like VIPer7 minus the hexediting, Josh.

Quite a bit of dedication is going in this movie, which is admirable... It'll end up being one of my absolute favorites by the end, no doubt.

You're welcome :) I guess this was a no-brainer in NG3, when playing normally you would climb the wall and do a forward jump off so you wouldn't have to do a back/forward thing. Since you can't just climb all the walls in NG2, the presence of this move is less obvious. When timeattacking, I was usually looking to move horizontally when I got to the top, so a forward jump-off at the top was the best way to end the climb. There was at least one occasion in a vertical area where I did an back/forwards jump to land just on top of a wall so I could jump again right away. Yes, I also admire your dedication, there is spot where I know I can cut a frame on my NG3 run but at this time I don't have the desire to do everything over for that one frame.

Are you 100% sure of this? Remember when you jump into the wall your gaining both horizontal AND vertical movement, while if you run upto the wall and then start going up it your only gaining horizontal OR vertical movement. I would think that there would be a point where jumping into the wall would be quicker, although it might be pretty close to it.

Thanks for the comments, guys, I really appreciate it! AxeMan: Actually in NG2 you can climb all the walls normally, it was the original where you couldn't. But yeah, the forward jump off the wall didn't come into play until 3. BoltR: This is what I was talking about...usually you need to reach a certain height before you can glitch through a wall and reach the top. Doing this at the minimum height is the fastest way...however, remember that you can only move right with this bug. So the trick I just learned is the best way to climb a wall IF you are doing so from the right side and need to jump over it and go to the left. -Josh

Hey, just finished Act 3 yet again...this time it's 42 frames faster than in the submitted movie! In addition to fixing the wall-climbing, I finally found a method to hit the boss with 9 fire wheels before he lands; if you'll notice, in all my previous movies I could only get 8. This helps speed up the fight because when I throw my last fire wheels, he only has 1 HP left and thus he dies immediately upon getting hit with the first one. Feeling positively giddy, Josh.

Alright...so I was making my way through this, improving Act 4 by 18 frames and Act 5 by 10. While playing it back, looking at 5-2 gave me an idea. I tried it out and discovered something which led me to start redoing almost the whole game, for what I sincerely hope will be the last time! To give you an idea, I already completed the first two acts; Act 1 is 4 frames faster, and Act 2 is 20. Most of this improvement came from this top-secret trick I discovered, which will not be revealed until this baby is submitted. Trust me, it may only be a small improvement but it looks really cool. =D EDIT: - Act 3 done, 48 frames faster than in the 9:34 run. - Act 4 is 28 frames faster now. - 16 frames of improvement in Act 5. - Act 6 turned out to be 10 frames faster...y'all are gonna LOVE the boss fight this time. ;) -Josh
