EDIT 28/11/23: Cancelled due to optimisation issues.
About the Game:
Barbie: Vacation Adventure is a 1994 prototype game for the Super Nintendo. You play as Barbie, who visits 4 states of America before going back to her mansion in California.
About the TAS:
This TAS aims for “all postcards” which means getting a postcard in each state.
Florida: Beach
After ~30 seconds of waiting and precise menuing, we head off to a beach in Florida.
We need to scroll the screen far enough for Barbie to say she wants to go scuba diving. Then we go straight back out of the scuba diving area and make Barbie leave the beach.
Wyoming: Camping
Now it’s time for us to help Barbie build her tent. This requires some precise movement of the plus sign to place the pieces as soon as possible. Then it’s time for a “walk” which, in this case, is 3 seconds of Barbie standing in the forest and then leaving.
Iowa: County Carnival
First, we need to find Farmer Brown’s prize pig. Then all we have to do is leave the carnival like nothing happened.
Texas: Western Ranch
Upon arriving, we need to press R for long enough for Barbie to decide to do horseshoe throwing. We have to throw 10 horseshoes as fast as possible. Then we leave the ranch - once again, like nothing happened.
California: Welcome Home
Barbie’s finally home after her holiday that was worse than the Heffley family’s long haul. After being greeted home by one of her butlers, she needs to find a few presents that have been hidden around her mansion.
Here are the locations of each present:
  • Present #1: A red chair.
  • Present #2: Barbie’s closet.
  • Present #3: Barbie’s vanity drawers.
  • Present #4: A yellow sofa.
After that treasure hunt, Barbie goes downstairs, opens the door and there’s a brand new shiny sports car outside. Just another day in the life, am I right?
And That’s It!
Thanks for reading. If you happen to find any improvements, please let me know as soon as you can.

feos: Claiming for judging.

Looks like you forgot to set the TAS profile (Config > Profiles... > Profile Options > Tool-assisted Speedruns > OK), which makes you default to Snes9x instead of BSNESv115+. I think it would be better if the movie was remade in the more accurate core.

Remaking is not necessary, snes9x core in hawk is still acceptable.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

The last level looks 3 seconds slower than RTA https://www.speedrun.com/barbie_vacation_adventure/runs/zx2rg2gm

Can't you compare them yourself? To me it looked like it was gradually getting faster and faster every room or so.

i’ll compare my TAS and MortimerNova’s RTA run and i’ll improve this tomorrow. in the meantime please could you set this TAS to delayed? EDIT: i’ve found this TAS too difficult to optimise myself. instead, nymx has agreed to TAS the final level and, as a result, he will be added as a co-author.

LGR...just letting you know that I have been trying to get in touch with you. Can you look me up on discord? There are some things that I wish to discuss with you about this run.
I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? NYMX: I'm not playing a game, I'm TASing. SOYZA: Oh...so its not a game...Its for real? ---- Anybody got a Quantum computer I can borrow for 20 minutes? Nevermind...eien's 64 core machine will do. :) ---- BOTing will be the end of all games. --NYMX

not yet. DrD2k9’s been very busy recently so he hasn’t got round to it.

It would be a better idea to cancel it for now then.
