Game objectives
- Emulator used: BizHawk 2.9.1 (SubNesHawk core)
- Aims for fastest time
- Abuses programming errors
- Manipulates luck
This run is for the US version, and uses the "item glitch".
This run improves
the previous run by about 2m19s. Improvements mainly comes from a bug which allows you to ignore the Soul Maze and related events. And I optimized various details.
This run is based on the excellent predecessor movies. Thanks!
I haven't analyzed the US version so eagerly, but the original Japanese version has many programming errors. So, there might be still some undiscovered improvements.
Sorpigal Town
- I encounter a Sprite and beat it.
- I open a chest, and get 8 to 9 gold, some gems, and some item which has selling price less than 10 gold. The purpose of these gold amount manipulation is saving time to displaying messages.
- I buy 4 Torches (2 gold per one) at the item shop. My backpack is filled up.
- I execute the item glitch twice to make a Dragon Shield (Torch -> Rope & Hooks -> Dragon Shield). The selling price of a Dragon Shield is 4000 gold.
- I move to Dusk Town by the transport service (1 gem needed).
Dusk Town
- At the item shop, I sell some items including a Dragon Shield, and buy a Magic Oil, a Return Scroll, and a Magic Oil.
- I make an Eye of Golos with 7 charges or above with the item glitch. This procedure is the same as in the previous run.
- I go to the Astral Plane with the Eye of Golos.
Astral Plane
- I open all of the five gates. In US version, even the initial character can unlock doors successfully with a low chance.
- I enter the Inner Sanctum. Normally, you cannot pass through the (7, 8) square unless you complete the Soul Maze. But this event is activated only when you are facing south, so you can avoid it by facing north beforehand and walking backward.
- I'm teleported to Sorpigal Town by an event.
Sorpigal Town to ending
- I move to Erliquin Town with a Return Scroll.
- I go out reserving the next encounter.
- I flee from the reserved encounter, and go to the ending.
Tricks
Reserve encounter
If a wandering encounter flag is enabled at the same time you enter an event square, the encounter is delayed until the event is completed. This saves a few frames if you want to encounter after the event. Furthermore, this make it significantly easy to manipulate the enemy composition, because this separates "encounter occurs" roll and "enemy composition" roll.
