The "peer" exchange thing is one of the dumber things I've heard. If implemented badly (and I have no reason to doubt otherwise), it will make badly connected networks. Since only BitComet supports this "extension", it gains an unfair advantage over other clients, while also maknig a poor swarm connection mesh. Lack of source code doesn't allow me to validate this, or to possibly assist in bug fixing. EVERY other BT client I know of offers source code. Even the other C++ libs do. Someone's going to have to make a REALLY strong case for bitcomet before I even think about lifting the ban. And this thread isn't the place to do it.

Is that why I can't download the AVI, DeHackEd? All I get is a nice "Tracker Down" from Shareaza.

The tracker's fine. I just have a certain sensetivity to what clients I allow on it. Shareaza in on my "Bram Cohen (author of BitTorrent) once called it a piece of $#!^ and I'm going to assume that's bad" list. I also have server logs to back this statement. I don't like programs that can't follow the rules and etiquttes established by the baseline specification. I've unbanned Shareaza. It's undergone some serious improvements since then.

Im not sure how many people here have heard about this, but there is a way to turn the wandering hammer bros on the map screens into bonus treasure ships. Heres how it is done: Start a level with a roulette at the end. Play through the level and get to the end (you might have to return into the level later). Before you hit the roulette, make sure your coin count is a multiple of 11 (11, 22...etc). Also make sure the ten's place in your score count matches this number. Example: Coins: 11 Score: 26310 If these are correct, finish the level and you get your surprise. I have made a .fcm video of this too, heres the link: http://www.geocities.com/pjgat09/hammer_to_ship.fcm.zip Enjoy!

Thanks for this tip. I don't know how many people actually know this trick, but I have already been aware of it for more than 10 years -- I read it from a Nintendo magazine when the game was still new. Naturally, this is of no use in speedruns :)

Depends. Do clouds move around as much as the Hammer Bros? If they don't move at all, it might actually save time when you finish a level because you'd avoid the small delay caused by their movement on the world map.

You also need to finish with even time units, otherwise your score will tally up to the wrong digit after completing the level. Well, or you could finish with odd and the incorrect digit, only to have it correct itself. How slick :)

Yes, the treasure ship moves as if it were a Hammer Bros.

It could be useful in a score run because of all those coins!

How about a run that turns as many hammer bros as possible into coin ships?

A score run would be really interesting in my opinion. Is there a score cap? I know the counter goes into the millions, but will it cap at 999,999,999? If so the run could be done to see how fast that score (or the max score if it doesn't cap) could be achieved.

It goes to 999,999,999 and everyone that owned the cartridge has already got that score at least once.

Personally, I'd be more interested in a run obtaining as many coins as possible, without using coin ships or reusing switches. Andreas

I own the cartridge and I can't remember if I got that score or not...

Yes, I would also be interested in a scorerun :) (In which this trick would propably prove useful)
Which run should I encode next? :)

i too would be interested in a score run. So who is going to take on the task? What are the limitations going to be?

An obvious limitation would be no death.

Could you do worlds 5 and 6 four times in a row using the warp whistles?

A score run has a lot of potential for interesting techniques. At the same time it could show of a multitude of glitches. Personally, I would like to see a score run.

Well, what I'm really interested in is a movie that does everything and shows off all the game's secrets. I figured the score run was the simplest way to get something like that to happen, although I bet the player would still skip a lot of stuff to save time so the extra time adds up to points.

wasn't genisto (i believe it was he) doing something like this, but IIRC de-synced at the end of world 3 with the starman/pipe transport area. Id love to see some of the other little quirks of the game, past lvl 3 of course -_- edit: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2345&highlight=smb3 this was the thread, has he made anymore progress??
