We need an all stages run, and to obsolete an existing run.

I started a quick dirty run for the SNES a while ago if someone wants to use that as a baseline...

I've been thinking about TASing this game. Do you think it's a good idea? Leave your comments in this thread! By the way, I'm looking for someone to co-author with me. Post here if you want to also.

Um...welcome to TASvideos? I'm pretty sure that's not the BEST way to begin your TASing career, but good luck with your run.

Good luck. According to the current submission's text, you must arrive at Bowser's castle 38 frames earlier to save any time. :o
What's more, the next possible Bowser Quick Drop manipulation would require getting to Bowser 17 frames faster than our best time (38 frames faster than this submission).

Hi, what do you think of my TAS of SMB3 :) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlQqeGB5z9E

Interesting. I wouldn't have done any better on my first try without spending too much time on it. While I suppose the purpose of TAS you made is to get used to doing a TAS, the current published run of SMB3 uses a lot of technical know-how and I wouldn't try beating it unless I know exactly how it works, and how to beat it.

Do you think it's possible that there is an improvement in the run of SMB3???

When you're TASing a game as well trodden as SMB3, you should TAS it for fun or to improve your skills as a TASer - not to set a new world record. Look up TAS freeruns on youtube for an example

yes but the purpose of tasvideos.org is to list the best records ... and I wonder if it's possible that there is an improvement on the current record of SMB3 (anyway TASers always want to do better) ... but I think there are already TASers working on a possible improvement in the current record

Sometimes, that is not always the case. Here are some examples.

The purpose of the TAS listing is, yes (with exceptions for games where fast = boring, and for those games the most entertaining playaround is listed instead). The forum doesn't have to be entirely about that.

I don't think anyone is working on an SMB3 improvement atm, but I'm open to being surprised.

Yes, the current run is improvable by 1 frame. However, the run will look significantly worse as a result. Which is why I'm not doing it, and AFAIK is why no one else is doing it.

What is the one frame of improvement?

Its in an old WIP I posted in this thread many years ago. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/731116392/Super%20Mario%20Bros.%203%20%28U%29%20%28PRG1%29%20%5B%21%5D.fcm If you can get the sub pixel positions to match at the end of each stage it should be possible to hex nearly all the input from the currently published movie. Essentially the current run is improved by completing 1-1 three frames slower. While this won't make much sense, it works out faster because you're avoiding the lag frame where the mushroom spawns. Meaning that the RNG isn't delayed. While time is going to be lost continually throughout the movie because of unfavourable RNG. Its made up for on the last level because the wait required to get the RNG to do the six hop Bowser routine is lengthy. Hence why I feel its pointless to improve the current run unless you can get to Bowsers Castle 17 frames faster.

Hi, all! What if I do a run of this game B-less (if I can find a way)?
If I could have a tool-assisted real life, I'd... Being a novice, I'd probably load the wrong state, have the IRS AI bankrupt me, and eventually make me want to kill myself and redo 11 years of hard work.
