I was just curious, what do you guys think is the best Megaman/Rockman title on NES/Famicom? Personally I like Megaman II but that's kind of a sentimental attachment. I haven't played the others nearly as much. Their boss robots seem progressively weirder though...II has the classics IMHO.

Opinions: -Mega Man 1- Difficult but simple. Most of the music is really good, while some don't exactly fit the game (Cutman, Fireman). Weapons are maybe too powerful and Capcom realized it afterwards. In the later games, the weapons waste more energy so you can't use them as much. The robot masters follow loosely some elemental chart to create circular power relations: bomb (paper? ;) ), guts (rock), scissors(?), electricity, ice, fire. The bosses have stories behind them: each had "originally" some useful purpose. -Mega Man 2- Easy, except when difficult. Weapons were now dulled out versions of the robot master weapons, but that didn't much matter. Musics were excellent. The Items were nice additions, and their usage was clearly defined enough. The password system ruled. The robots were new and it was fun to find out how to beat them - how do they react, which weapons to use. -Mega Man 3- Musics had a completely different tint than in the previous ones, but they were mostly acceptable. The robots were a little exotic and some started wondering how did they invent them, but it was quickly accepted. Sliding ruled. The game had some shady red character, whose identity was never quite clearly revealed. Contradicting things happened. Apparently there was a story, but nobody told me what it is. The game was easy at first, but the length made it difficult to beat. -Mega Man 4- Musics were again the Mega Man 2 style. Good, good. New robots, even more difficult to beat, but the weapons you got from them were dulled again. Who's Cossack? The story of this game had apparently some creative addition when compared to the previous ones - a small excuse to get to play more levels. -Mega Man 5- This time the musics were all very complicated. The composer has been feeling very adventurous. Suits well the robots - they are all very obscure too. Unfortunately I never quite much played this game, so I don't really know. -Mega Man 6- I have played this one even less than MM5... My favourite is Mega Man 2.

For me, the addition of sliding and Rush make the first two games feel completely different than the others. I'd say I enjoy part II a little more than part I, but both of them are far more enjoyable than any of the sequels.

The first Megaman I didn't play much, but the levels themselves are more challenging than the bosses, Fireman's stage has good music. Megaman 2 is my favourite, the music in the first Wily level is one of the best I've ever heard in an NES game; it also has the most useful weapon in the series, the cut blade you get from Metalman: powerful, shoots in all directions, takes long to run out. Megaman 3 was a good addition in terms of challenge, the final boss music is catchy. Megaman 4 is the transition game, after this one, the series changes a lot. Megaman 5 and 6 seem very childish in comparison to the earlier games: brighter colors, "cuter" bosses, even the tone of the music...

Megaman 3 is probably in my top ten favorite games of all-time (maybe even top five) so it has to be that one for me.

well I think that maybe I'll check out 3 now that you've menttioned it. AND I think that the metalman metal blade weapon deserves its own thread, if not its own SITE, because it is so incredibly badass. Really its kind of ridiculous.

I love them all, but I like 3 and 6 the best. 3 introduced rush and had the best ending out of all the original games and 6 had great rush transformations and gave you a good reason to replay old levels. Although 6 may be a little hard when you get to the wily levels, It is better than Rockman 2's wily levels. It is also the only ending where Rock sends Wily to jail. Rockman 4 also has a pretty good story and the best opening music.

I like all three first Megaman games (1-3) but maybe Megaman 3 is the best and 2 is a good second or they share #1 position heh. MM2 and 3 were piece of cake compared to MM1. MM1 might still be the hardest nes megaman without that pause trick (which i didn't know back then dozen years ago, dang!) MM 4 was much harder than 2 previous games and it felt like it had starting to lose a bit that real MM touch. After beating Cossack I felt so tired and secretly hoped it is over. Not much gas to continue anymore :) 5 was a beginning of failed MM games on NES. I was so hyped up and anxious to play this when I read from a game magazine that Japanese kids have told tips and designed Megaman 5 robots :) 6 was so out of this planet that it's sad. Only few at the time even had guts to tell they still play NES and haven't moved to SNES =) It wasn't released in EUR which was strong area for MM series too. Black sheep of MM series on nes. I like very much all games' music except 6. Even though MM2 had a huuuge leap on music from MM1 and 1's music sounds simple it's points are raised by nostalgy :) 5 has some very good songs but overally it is behind former MM's music.

As for me, my favorite Rockman game in the original series 1-6 is Rockman 3: Dr. Wily's Last Stand!?. But the question was your faorite on the NES/Famicom.. which is Wily and Right's Rockboard: That's Paradise!. ^_^ I really hope that game is translated into English and included as a bonus game in Anniversary Collection... but I doubt it will ;_;

This is true of all Robot Masters. The character profiles weren't included in the English versions for some reason. Though, the English version of Rockman & Forte did translate the CDDB, so that's good. I really hope the extended profiles from Complete Works are included in Anniversary Collection, too.. then CAPCOM could use Aniversary Collection to correct all the horrendous mistakes in made over the past 16 years concerning the series' English counterpart. (if only the X-eries could have the same treatment.. its a little more plot-heavy, so it's kind of annoying when the English games get stuff wrong).

I like the muic in 3.. :-þ 3, 4, and 5 have the best soundtracks out of 1-6 for me. But maybe it's just because I'm an Alph Lyla fan that I like Bun-Bun's compositions so much. ..I was going to give long, boring overviews of the plot of 3 and 4 because you mentioned having difficulties, but then I realised no-one but me would care ^_^;;
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Clearly you don't know how much of a fan I am of the Megaman series. ;) I'm always glad to read someone's interpretation of the plots of the games, especially when it's in the context of the original (Rockman) versions, since I've only ever played the Americanized games. As for being on-topic, my favorite of MM1-6 would have to be 3. That game was as close to perfect (glitches nonwithstanding) as you could get in terms of control and graphics. The music was okay, but left something to be desired -- MM2 has my favorite soundtrack.
