About the Game
Castle Cat 1 is a 2004 Adobe Flash platformer developed by the late Felix Wiesner and is the first of the Castle Cat series. You play as the castle cat himself, climbing up a castle to fight a dragon at the top. This is a 2023 homebrew Sega Genesis / Mega Drive port of the game made by bolon667.
About the TAS
This TAS aims to complete the game as fast as possible.
Why BizHawk 2.8?
On my download of BizHawk 2.9.1, I accidentally set the Fairchild Channel F system to port all unknown files to and I don't know how to change it back. So I had to step back to version 2.8 instead which I didn't do this with.
Pre-Boss
This section was TASed by
Spikestuff which is why I've added them as a co-author. Nothing much to say here other than we just keep jumping as much as we can to get to the top quickly.
Boss Fight
This section was TASed by myself and later further optimised by
Spikestuff. This is the interesting and specific part that nobody could figure out until now.
The boss fight is split up into cycles where the dragon attacks from 4 different angles. We can only hit the dragon when he's coming from the right side of the screen. We can jump once every 40 frames, which gives us enough time to get 4 hits in before he goes somewhere else. Each cycle takes a painstakingly long 1,103 frames, as well as a further 88 frames when we spawn at first. The dragon has 11 hit points, and 4x3=12, so we can kill him on the 3rd hit of the 3rd cycle. Input ends on frame 3974 when we jump for the 11th and final attack.
That's all from us. Thanks for reading.
