Sega Genesis NHLPA Hockey ’93 fastest win by input lenght.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Bizhawk
  • Win the game (Regular Mode)
  • Aims for fastest time (ends input as early as possible)
  • Manipulates luck (referee and opponent RNG)
The most important thing is to change the periods to 5 minutes.
This version of the game does not advance to the next period without any input, so we can't make one goal in the first period immediately and then end input. Instead, we need to do some input to start the 3rd period, then make a goal as fast as possible to end input early.
Another strat is to make a goal in the 1st/2nd period so you can end input early when you press start to begin 3rd period, but due to cheering animations, this is slower by about 200 frames.
I believe the referee RNG can be manipulated to save maybe 1-2 seconds, but I don't understand how it works.
This game is very bad compared to NHL Hockey.

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Having rom trouble here. Even though someone was able to sync it, I need to review it. Plus that same rom source is no longer available. Seeing to "Needs More Info" for now.
nymx: Well, I was finally able to get this cleared away. Thanks to Bigbass and Darkman425 for their help.
At first, I had no clue what was going on. I thought it was the regular de-sync again, but it wasn't. After I noticed the strategy being used, I quickly realized why the author chose this direction. You did the right thing by saving your effort for the beginning of the 3rd period, which gives you the most available opportunity to end input early. The game-play doesn't seem all that exciting, except for the scoring....but you certainly did the right thing here. Yeah...this game is really bad, if the AI can't take you down. I can imagine that it is not fun at all to play.
Accepting!

I'm not having any success syncing this movie. I've tried two versions and its not working. Are there any special settings, or something else that I need to know about? Maybe try updating your ROM name to something more descriptive?
I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? NYMX: I'm not playing a game, I'm TASing. SOYZA: Oh...so its not a game...Its for real? ---- Anybody got a Quantum computer I can borrow for 20 minutes? Nevermind...eien's 64 core machine will do. :) ---- BOTing will be the end of all games. --NYMX

I'm having the same problems here. Seems like I'm missing one of the trusted versions of the game, according to the Dat-O-Matic database. The two No-Intro versions I have:
File: NHLPA Hockey 93 (USA, Europe).md
Name: NHLPA Hockey 93 (USA, Europe) (EASN)
Alt: NHLPA Hockey '93 (UE) (REV00)

File: NHLPA Hockey 93 (USA, Europe) (v1.1).md
Name: NHLPA Hockey 93 (USA, Europe) (Rev A) (EASN)
Alt: NHLPA Hockey '93 (UE) (REV01) [!]

The version that the submission was made on seems to also be a good dump according to the No-Intro database:

Hey alexheights1. Can you do us a favor and check your movie file on your end? Just do a full sync and let us know if it works.

you're a maniac, people gonna hate this as much or more than my mortal kombat speed TAS lol yes vote!!!
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.
