Introduction

I like Porsches. My favourite is the 911 (996) Turbo. I used to play this game back then on the PC, which is a vastly different (better) port than the PSX one.
This movie runs the "test driver" career that brings you from junior / delivery driver to professional test driver. It consists of 12 circuits.

Software + Hardware

Rom Information

  • Name: Need for Speed - Porsche Unleashed (USA)
* ROM:  Need for Speed 5 - Porsche Unleashed [U] [SLUS-01104].bin
* SHA1:dc90a24827403f72f607bc65911eb7c16066b39f
* MD5:c4585aaf4bed2cebf64bd6455009d194

Emulator

  • EmuHawk 2.9.1 (Core: Nymashock)

Routing Bot

None. This is a manual TAS.

Strategy

The time limits for every circuit are so lax for a TAS that I can often run over cones or incur penalties without consequences. In race 10 I take a small hit against the fence, but this seems actually optimal since I couldn't drive around it any faster without slowing down considerably.

Hey eien86, you probably tried this but im gonna ask anyway because i noticed it... Have you tried a perfect start? Like timing your acceleration at the start of each track to get a "boost"? And for turning corners... did you hold down the direction button or tap it? Thanks in advance for answering!

Hi Somyeol! I didn't approach this TAS super professionally. I did it to have fun and take a rest from the technical grind. So I didn't study the effects of timing the start and perfectly tapping turns. This game is very quirky with physics and probably a more sophisticated touch will find improvements.
