Hello, malinda! Welcome to tasvideos! I'd like to point out that Nintendo Wii is fragile territory for TASing. If a game desynced once, it will certainly keep desyncing until you complete it. Judging by speedrun.com, and I assume that's your speedrun, it takes more than 2 hours to beat the game (I'm not familiar with speedruns, so I can't speculate how much time a TAS can save), which is pretty long. I'm afraid you may end up being burnt out, if your goal is a make a TAS movie for submission here. You may want to beat the game by chapters, if Dolphin allows you to record a movie from a console boot-up (with the game save reflecting your progress). The game will still desync, but at least it makes it easy for you to fixate the progress, because this way you don't have to replay your long TAS from the very beginning to notice a potential desync near the end of your current progress. And chapter TASes will be much shorter, so you don't have to spend much time waiting. Your TAS is 1 year old. Recently, Dolphin 2503 received some TAS stability improvements, so it might be a ray of hope to expect that a newer TAS might be less desync-prone. On the other hand, Resident Evil 4 for Wii still desyncs beyond belief. If your goal is just to have a TAS video of you beating the game, you may record your footage by portions: you make a small portion of progress until it desyncs, then you record it on a video and store it somewhere safe. Then you load a savestate prior to that desync and record another portion of progress, then record it on a video. You may store that savestate somewhere safe too, in case you accidentally overwrite it. Keep doing that up until the game is complete. Then use a video editing program to merge video fragments together, so it would look like one single video without interrupts. Of course, you cannot submit such a movie on TASVideos, because it must be able to be replayable for other people, not you alone. Good luck!
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

Thank you! I hope I can make a full one, because that one was soo close xd But I will probably resort to that if it desyncs very late, if I knew I could do that I would have done it with my first one.

Also, I wonder if I could submit a movie of the first chapter alone. It takes around 25 minutes RTA, and it's probably the chapter with the most TAS only strats.

i just found out (got reminded of the fact) that starting recording from boot results in an infinite black screen in this game. RIP EDIT: i just found the solution: start the recording without any wii mote connected and only connect it afterwards :D

It wouldn't be considered as the "full game", and wouldn't be publishable, probably playground at the very best. An unfair comparison would be relating it to an RPG that goes by chapters, Mother 3 and Dragon Quest IX as examples or by disk like Final Fantasy IX. More fair in terms of comparison would be comparing to Puzzle Games such as Ghost Trick which goes through its 18 Chapters in a single file, and going down in terms of time there's Professor Layton and its 9 chapters or Dark Tales which goes through 3 stories. If you want to stretch the "chapter" definition, you can compare to a side-scrolling Mario title and refer to a "world" as a "chapter". Personally. I'm really exited about this Canis Canem Edit TAS being done to completion, and hopefully the speedrunning community would be able to get around and find more glitches/tricks to later chapters during that time. So good luck to you malinda and anyone else that joins you on the journey of creating the final TAS.

so about being able to record the TAS from boot up: if i start the recording without any wiimote connected, it will run normally, but if i have a wiimote connected it won't. but if i record starting from not having a wiimote connected and then connect it, it won't replay any of my inputs after saving the movie. idk how to go about this to submit my movie, i will try making it from a savestate right at the start ;(

It looks like the black screen issue is almost a decade old, and was caused by an issue in Emulated Wiimotes not polling at 200Hz like the game/console expects, causing it to hang forever. JMC4789's tip to Enable MMU previously fixed it, but hasn't worked during TAS recording since 5.0-18446. It seems to be a regression introduced in CPP/Curtiss' 5.0-18448. Maybe the MMU flag no longer carries over to the .dtm file? Meanwhile, Wiimote recording works fine on the previous 5.0-18446 dev version and 5.0-17995 release. As long as they don't desync more than the one you're using, you could switch to one of those. Which Dolphin version are you using now? Also, this issue supposedly doesn't affect real Wiimotes connected with Bluetooth, so if you have one, see if it'll record to an input file and if you can use it with the Dolphin you already have. Regarding desyncs like you experienced before, it's usually not clear what causes them, but if it only happens at the end again, you can try different inputs, pausing, etc. until your file seems to sync every time. Make sure Config>Enable Dual Core is off while recording or playing back, and maybe send the file to others to help ensure it syncs.

It's difficult to publish a TAS starting from a savestate here, so see if power-on works for you in 5.0-18446 or with a real Wiimote. Great game choice by the way! Looking forward to more updates.

i have figured out that it is possible to record from power on if you use real wii motes, then change to emulated wii motes on the first frame of the movie. i hope this method is acceptable for submission :)

update: i have finished the mission That Bitch and started suffering doing The Candidate. Currently at 18:28 IGT, in pace for a low 25 Chapter One, which is good considering im using slower loading times this time.
