For judges and publishers, there is a credits crash on the emulator that crashes the game and closes the emulator during the credits. The credits were added using an editing program, and the game should crash at frame 637433.

Game objectives

  • Emulator: BizHawk 2.10
  • Game version: Europe
  • Use Easy Mode
  • No Amiibo (see further description)
  • RNG manipulation
Note: Do not play the TAS file with a different language setting in this version because loading the game takes an extra frame which will cause desync (On the Japanese version it takes an extra 5 frames than the English version)
In this game, the Beanbean Kingdom pays a formal visit to the Mushroom Kingdom. However, that visit was a fluke and the main villain of this game, Cackletta, steals Princess Peach's voice and escapes. As an attempt to save their princess' voice, Mario and green 'stache (forced by Bowser) now team up to retrieve Peach's voice and save the Beanbean Kingdom.

Fast forward

  • This game has an Fast forward function that we can use with R, this is a novelty added from Paper Jam but in this game holding if we control Mario & Luigi, the imputs A and B do not work, we have to not hold R to make A and B work

Amiibo

  • The current RTA's WR uses Amiibo to get one Badge which is useful before entering the Chucklehuck Woods location and 15 of each type of bean to make 4 coffees for the Bonus Ring and Great Force which I will also explain, with amiibo we can stamp to get given items from other NPCs we meet depending on what stamp we have, unfortunately because in BizHawk it is not possible to use Amiibo and if it would work, in TAStudio it could not reproduce, that is why in this TAS the beans are collected.

Beans

  • Woo Beans: We can get these beans from Beanie and Sharpea which will be useful for making coffee, Beanie has a 14% chance of dropping this bean and Sharpea has an 8% chance, it is possible to increase the chances with Game Boy Horror SP or Super Swing Bros only that Game Boy Horror SP can only be obtained by making all types of coffee and Super Swing Bros are not yet obtained at this stage of the game.
  • Hee Beans: We can only get these beans from the mini-games we have done, which is why in Stardust Fields I lose time to get them, they are needed 14 to make 2 coffees, it should be mentioned that we don't get Hee bean if we do a mini-game for the first time.
  • Chuckle Beans: We can get them from the ground marked X, there is already a route for it in Chucklehuck Woods, you need 10 of these beans to make coffee but they are close except for one
  • Hoo Beans: These beans can be obtained from hidden or unhidden blocks in various places, an example is Chucklehuck Woods in which we collect 3 of them, they are difficult to get, the required number for it is 10, but in Beanbean Castle (7) and Chucklehuck Woods (3) they are close in front of the boss which is enough to make coffee.

RNG manipulation

In this game, we manipulate RNG to get better drops and faster attacks. For normal enemies and their drops, it depends on which frame we enter the fight and perform attacks. Drops are only manipulated on Beanie. For bosses, attack manipulation depends on how we attack and how we perform it. For Chopper Bros and Fire Bros, it depends on the frame in which we press A. We will not change the RNG by waiting a few seconds. I choose more optimal attacks that are faster and will defeat the bosses faster.

Gear used List

Pants

  • 1 Trousers: It is an item that can be worn by two brothers. In this version, the item is located in Beanbean Fields, where only Luigi can get it. It allows you to move first.
  • Flower Pants: This is an item that only Luigi can wear, allowing him to start his turn after Mario. With #1 Trousers, it is very good for saving time.
  • Stealth Suit: It is an item that can be obtained after the third battle with Popple. Anyone can wear it, it increases Critical and Lucky damage, and adds pow, so it is used in further battles.
  • Bat Wear: It is an item that only Mario can wear, it only adds a barrier for 3 hits so it is not interesting, but it is used for the final battle.
  • Stone Slacks: It's the same as Bat Wear, but only Luigi can wear it.

Badges

  • I will discuss some of them, some of which are there to add pow
  • Rookie Emblem A: This item can be obtained from Rookie. It adds an additional bonus to POW for a limited turns, making it powerful for 2/3 battles.
  • Spiny Badge A: It is an item that allows us to jump on spiny enemies and use a jump on them. It is only useful in Teehee Valley.
  • Ohoracle Badge: This item allows you to increase POW for one turn only when you start the turn. With #1 Trousers, it is good for bosses.
  • Oh-Pah Badges: It is a badge that can be purchased in the shop after collecting all Beanstars parts. It allows you to increase damage for a limited number of turns. I buy 2 for Mario and Luigi, but second for Mario is useful for the Final.
  • Popple Badge AA: It's the same as the Ohoracle Badge, but better.

Accessories

  • Bonus Ring: Is an item from which we gain by making 2 different types of coffee, Bonus Ring allows you to gain more EXP from enemies and bosses if Mario and Luigi did not get damage from them or Popple does not take the item away
  • Great Force: Is an item from which we gain by making 4 different types of coffee, Great Force allows you to increase and getting more damage for Mario and Luigi, it will be used on bosses

Bowser

  • We use jumping to defeat Bowser, we get Great instead of Excellence because it saves 2 frames, Great also has a 2 frame window, on the first attack we jump because if we get hit, bowser will shoot a fireball again
We turn on Easy Mode in the options, this makes Mario and Luigi stronger for battles

Goombas

  • We just jump, we do the 3rd fight which is optional because we need to get a level for Luigi to fight Fawful

Fawful

  • We jump, with his attack on Mario and Luigi, on Mario we use guard because it saves 6 frames than jumping, on Luigi we jump because guard loses 37 frames than jumping

Minigame

  • We go through Stages to get 14 beans, from stage 4 we can choose what level of stage we want to do, Stage 5 is not done because it is a compilation of all the previous stages and wastes more time, we do stage 4 and 2 as a choice because they are faster than stage 1 and 3, stage 2 is 29 slower compared to stage 4, but it is faster than stage 4 because of the second option window and the 2 extra animations of getting beans
Using a jump on Mario and Luigi at the same time will allow us to collect 2 coins from a block with 10 coins, which means we can jump on these blocks 5 times instead of 10 to collect all the coins from there.

Tolstar

  • We use bros attacks to defeat Tolstar faster, compared to GBA, syrups are not required here due to increased damage thanks to Easy Mode

Beanie

  • I manipulate the RNG by entering a fight with them in a different frame and performing attacks to get Woo Beans, the drop manipulation depends on the frame of entry of the fight or attack and how we achieve.

Hoohooros

  • In this fight we have to advance bros attacks to Super on the next boss, even though the pillars have 3 HP the bros attacks are required to advance faster, due to the fact that on Luigi I already used Bounce Bros on Beanie, I didn't have to use this attack on the one pillar.

Dragohoho

  • Using guard and getting damage is faster than jumping, in the second round mario I save time using jump because it saves frames compared to Super Splash Bros and Dragohoho doesn't get a fury so he doesn't shoot the third ball.

Queen Bean

  • In this fight we have to use Super Splash Bros to attack the queen's head, in this fight however we have to take syrup so mario can beat her faster, in the hand attacks, in the first one I use guard to save time, in the second one using the hammer saves time.

Popple & Rookie

  • Takes an extra turn due to badge, getting damage from last hammer from Rookie saves 2 frames and before fireball saves 3 frames, using guard on Popple attack before running away saves a few frames than jumping.

Wiggler

  • We put Rookie Emblem A on Mario to deal more damage, Chopper Bros on this version is nerfed so we won't be able to beat the wiggler in one attack, I use Bounce Bros on the red body parts to weaken the wiggler faster, Excellent at this stage with Knockback Bros loses 52 frames than unsuccessful A presses, Knockback Bros is also faster than Bounce Bros.

Chuckolator

  • Getting damage loses time, it makes no difference if at the bubbles we jump or use guard.

Viruses & Eeker

  • I fight them to get a level for Mario and Luigi on Cackletta, in the fights I try to avoid drops from enemies so as not to lose time

Cackletta

  • We put Bubbles Badge on Luigi to deal some more damage to beat Cackletta faster without going to the second phase, Bean Badge can't beat her on three attacks, it will leave 2 HP causing a loss time, I use Super Bounce Bros because it deals more damage than Knockback Bros if we fight single enemies

Popple & Rookie 2

  • Same thing, we defeat Rookie, the fight is over faster, this time we can't get damage, I use Super Splash Bros because it's faster than using Chopper Bros by 121 frames, at Great it saves 74 frames than Excellence however I have to do Excellence because when we go over 200 damage, Rookie gets an extra attack lose some more frames

Mom Piranha

  • This BOSS is weak to Fire and Thunder attacks and is immune to jumps and bros attacks using them, in this fight I use Chopper Bros to beat her faster, I use Thunder attack because it saves 132 frames than a jump (Great) and she is weak to this attack, it is also the last fight in which I use Rookie Emblem A as Mario.

Gritty Goomba & Spiky Snifit

  • Spiny Badge A allows you to jump into spiky enemies so we can kill with just a jump, manipulates RNG to give a better layout of enemies, on Spiky Snifit I use fire and thunder because it saves time than hammer and 8 frames than Jump (OK)

Trunkle

  • Chopper Bros is doing a good job here

Hermie III

  • This fight caused a lot of problems because I had to get the boss' defences down after by Thunder Bros, however I failed to manipulate so as to reduce, then I thought of trying Fire Bros and it turned out to be strong in this fight, thanks to it I could beat Hermie in 2 turns instead of 3, I also don't get claw injured so the BOSS doesn't hide in the shell.

Popple

  • I use Fire and Bounce Bros to beat Popple faster, I lose a few frames with Fire Bros on purpose to get a faster attack.

Piranha Bean

  • We use Thunder to beat Piranha Bean faster, nothing more to mention

Jojora’s Friend & Jojora

  • Jojora's Friend is weak against Fire, so in this battle I use Fire Bros to defeat her faster.

Popple & Birdo

  • In this fight, I use Fire Bros and Super Bounce Bros to defeat Popple and Birdo faster. We make sure that Popple doesn't escape from the fight because he has a Badge that will be useful for the rest of the fights.

Iggy

  • Iggy changes Mario and Luigi's statuses every turn, reducing Mario's defence and reducing Luigi's POW regardless of how we manipulate him. We use Swing Bros to defeat him faster.

Morton

I use Swing Bros and Knockback Bros to defeat Morton faster.

Lemmy

  • Before the fight, we have to find Lemmy with one of the four fakes. We won't find him on the first try, regardless of which one we hit. On the second try, it's RNG.
  • He summons three of them, the mechanics are different than in GBA because the real one is the one who summons the three fakes. We defeat Lemmy using Swing Bros.

Ludwig

  • In this battle, instead of fighting Ludwig normally, we must avoid his attacks and hit the ball accurately to defeat him. If we miss, we will have to fight him again.

Roy

  • I manipulate the RNG to get a faster attack.

Wendy

  • Same mechanics as Lemmy, we use Swing Bros to deal more damage and finish Wendy with a jump.

Larry

  • We use Chopper Bros because Larry is immune to jump attacks, and Swing Bros is no exception.

Fawful

  • We use Fire Bros and Super Bounce Bros to save time because, on Fawful, Fire Bros is one of the most powerful in this battle.

Bowletta

  • On Super Bounce Bros, I get Lucky to beat her faster.

Cackletta

  • I destroy parts of her body at the beginning to expose her heart, attacking her arms first because attacking her head will cause Cackletta to attack. After exposing her heart, I use Super Knockback Bros to deal more damage, then jumps (OK) so as not to anger her at the beginning of the turn.

Glitches & time saves

  • Starshade Bros Flag Skip: After learning the High Jump and Spin Jump, we use the skip with the High Jump by which we step into the bridge trigger on the left to make Mario and Luigi go right to the bridge at the very bottom avoiding the trigger
  • Faster switching: if Mario and Luigi are standing in the same X, Y, Z position or even closer, we can switch places faster, e.g. with Spin Jump and High Jump. It uses it in some places to save frames.
  • Hoohoo Mountain Wall Clip: In this room, using High Jump will allow you to clip into the wall, causing Mario and Luigi to move right to the top, saving time compared to normal. It is the only glitch we use.
  • Faster Whirlwind Room: This is where we make a faster way to get to Dragohoho.
  • Spikes: Underwater, to obtain the Bean Star, after opening the passage with Fire, going through the spikes saves 69 frames than normal swimming.
  • Easily Avoid The Gunner Guy: Don't get too close to the wall, it will help you avoid a fight.

Congrats on finishing a run for this game. I see you are a runner on speedrun.com. Since I never played this remake, I can't really tell if this is of good quality. Some things I noticed: - The re-record count 4187 is rather low for a game of this length. - Is it not possible to collect the orbs in the Hohooros minigame by jumping like in the original game? - I guess there are a lot of differences to the original game in terms of gameplay, bros. attacks and dealing damage. Are the coffee items absolutely necessary? It seems that it takes several minutes. Are those minutes saved back? - I noticed the TASvideos forum topic is rather empty. I'm not sure if a lot of research has been done for this game yet in terms of bug hunting. Do the bugs pointed out in that topic not have any use? Also what about the bugs pointed out on the speedrun.com posts section such as here?

MUGG, thank you, a couple of clarifications that I will describe here 1. Re-record count shows 4187 but in reality there is much more than you think, 3DS core sometimes does not count the number of savestates you have loaded. 2. Generally there is but you have to change every place to get to the other side anyway. 3. Yes it matters, coffees give back temporarily, Great Forge increases damage to x2 but you also get x2, it doesn't matter because you also use Bonus Ring to gain EXP anyway, we also have to drink coffees to increase stats, the route without amiibo in TAS loses from 3-4 minutes but gives back temporarily on bosses 4. There are not much useful glitches in the game except for the clip in Hoohoo Mountain which I think the ref found if I'm not mistaken? Also, I didn't know about this glitch but it looks like it's not useful

1. In that case, perhaps the rerecord count should be shown in the video encode as "unknown". 2. As far as I remember, the original game needs to manipulate the RNG prior to entering the room in order to spinjump as few times as possible. This should be considered in the next attempt of this game.
