A mysterious golden letter is sent to a select number of people... Its contents are unknown.
Project Kat is a story-based puzzle game created by Leef6010, where each puzzle has multiple solutions and outcomes! There is always another way. The game is playable in about 45 minutes and contains multiple endings depending on your actions.
TAS saves 70 frames over the previous TAS thanks to a new strategy and better optimisation.

Sync

To sync this TAS, you must follow these steps:
  • Set Tools -> Slow Motion to 12%
  • Use Frame Advance until the clock appears at the bottom right, wait a few seconds, then scroll (it should disappear at frame 24)
  • Frame Advance for a few 100 frames until after the warning in Japanese (after Language Selection)
  • After pressing New Game, continue scrolling Frame Advance until the second clock appears (it should appear at frame 306), wait a few seconds, then continue scrolling; it should disappear at frame 314.
  • Uncheck Pause in libTAS
I won't discuss many things here, if you want to know more about the entire route, here is a link to the route in question https://tasvideos.org/9202S

Language

  • This TAS uses Japanese because it saves time compared to English and French on the text ‘YOU'RE MAKING TOO MUCH NOISE’. which is the only text that matters during the TAS. Japanese saves over 158 frames compared to English and 137 frames compared to French. The dialogues at the end do not matter in terms of time because the game has a timer that triggers the sound of Kat's death.

Version

  • I didn't emphasise this in the previous TAS because there were no notes in the differences, but I'm discussing it here. The TAS uses v1.5.1, which is newer, this version loses 7-8 seconds (2 additional seconds if the staircase skip does not work) because waiting in a tight room after the note takes 3 waits, while on v1.3.1 it takes 2, but I used v1.5.1 for easy access. the staircase skip on this version is also more difficult than on v1.3.1 because the developers moved the trigger even closer to the stairs to fix it, which is a loss of 1-2 seconds.

Dialogues

  • In this game, holding down X while pressing Z, Space, Enter during dialogues is the fastest way to skip dialogues in this game. Not holding down X or not pressing Z, Spacebar causes a time loss. The game has a key under cancel that is used to automatically skip dialogues. Holding down X alone is slower by 4 frames per dialogue if the Z, Space and Enter are not pressed, it is slow by seconds if we do not use this method. Another time loss is pressing Z, Space and Enter without holding down X. Pressing Z and Space each frame, causes a loss of 1 frame per dialogue. Pressing Z and Space in the same frame has the same results as holding X and Z, Space mash, but due to further dialogues in some places, it is still slow. There is no way to speed up all dialogues in any other way, which is why TAS in most cases holds and presses at the same time to skip faster.

Interaction mechanics

  • In this game, the mechanics of interacting with objects in TAS are quite crucial. In all games, once you approach an object, you can press a button in the next frame to interact with that item or object, etc. This mechanic in Project Kat and Paper Lily is a little different because instead of approaching an object and pressing Z in the next frame, we have to wait another frame before interacting with the object. We can use this to turn in a different direction, which gives us 1 frame of movement for each interaction. This only works when interacting with specific objects. loading zones, triggers and menus do not work with this. I also use this in doors because I thought it might be fun to see how this method can be used.

The End

  • Many months after the publication of the previous TAS, it was discovered that the route of removing the flower from the vase triggers an additional dialogue at the very end. This dialogue in English is "Why not? Everyone should try it at least once." This dialogue loses 3.600 seconds in the TAS, but it is not slower. The time it takes to put the flower in the vase compared to taking out all the flowers and opening the door saves almost 5 seconds, which saves 1 second in this TAS.

eien86: Claiming for judging.

eien86: I am having troubles getting this to sync despite being able to in the past. This is not the author's fault nor we require any additional information. Delaying until we can get this to sync.
