We really need you, petrie. =P Having seen what you've produced and the contributions you've made to the discussions here and at SDA, I'm inclined to think that only you could do this game justice. You're the only real MM specialist here. No doubt the desynchs are irritating, but you can go as slowly and carefully as you want. Execute as few difficult tricks as possible between checks for desynchs, and hope for the best. We're here to support you.

Well I'd estimate that I spent 60% of my time re-watching the movie from the start, because just watching from a previous savestate isn't enough to tell if the movie desynced.

True, and that's why I said to go as slowly as necessary. At least for the first third of the run or so, the replays will be relatively tolerable in terms of length (I hope). At 300% playback speed, a one-hour run goes by in 20 minutes.

That's still 20 minutes you have to sit through before you can resume. Many people probably won't spent 20 minutes TASing per day.

It depends how fast you're computer can run the game, I put it on the loweset resolution in the smallest window at 1000% even then its still not a true 1000% speed since the computer is trying to run the game to its maximum capabilty, but I doubt many people have the mentalty to do 30 seconds of stuff and then re-watch the movie again just to check it worked, and then at certain points of the movie you're gonna want to check to see if the movie desynced after performing a certain stunt.

I'm pretty sure that if you create a savestate at the beginning of the level, and everything previous to that level has no desynchs i.e. you can view the enitre thing up to that level no problem, than when viewing new work done later in that level, if it goes fine then it won't desynch, so in fact you do not have to view the entire thing over and over. At least that's the case for Rayman 2, I had gone 1/3 in Fairy Glade before realizing that it desynched one frame before entering Fairy Glade. As soon as I went back and fixed that business, I created a savestate after entering the level, and checked it and it ran perfectly fine. I proceeded with the level, and whenever I did a section started from the savestate at the beginning of the level (and later I checked from the veyr beginning, and no desynchs.)

petrie, the fastest Odolwa fight would consist of an arrow to stun, 2 spin attacks, then a quick slash ASAP.

Odolwa has 20 HP. That only adds up to 15.

3-4 spin attacks maybe? spin attacks are faster than jumpslashes slightly i think

Yeah, but I still haven't worked out how to quickspin on emulator. And the video does get the basic concept across. Incidentally, how DO you quickspin on emu?

Educated guess: depending on how the game reads the input for it, you might have to hit the 4 quadrants in a certain order in a set amount of time.

That exact same logic applies to SM64 when you're spining Bowser, its actually faster to do it on a key board once you get the rhythm going.

Actually, it adds up to 21 with the Gilded Sword. Spin attack hits 3 times, each 3 HP, so that's 9 HP per spin attack. 9+9+3 = 21.

How do you do it on the n64? same way but a lot of practice?

Rotate the analog stick full circle and press B. You'll need a little practice to get the proper timing down.

Because Petrie is adamant he won't do it i've decided to start looking at this game. It really is too good to waste. 1) I love the game and know it well. 2) I've had good experience with the Mupen and it seems to be extremely robust towards desync (not even 1 during my Gex TAS). Just this morning I TASed from gaining control until the deku transformation scene. Looking back at it it is very well optimised, possibly even perfect. It has yet to desync. I'll post a WIP once getting to Clock Town if it is faster than AKA's (which i can't watch so i just have to stop input roughly where i imagine he did). I am willing to go through with this and with such a large team behind me I should be successful. However, if everyone still has their hearts set on Petrie i'll stop and we can all wait until he has a change of heart.

Skip Tatl text before entering Clock Tower Stock Pot Inn: Grandma's stories to Day 3 morning Trading Post: Scarecrow dance to Day 3 night East Clock Town: Get stray fairy Stock Pot Inn/East Clock Town: Get 99 rupees North Clock Town/Fairy Fountain: Get magic West Clock Town: Deposit 99 rupees South Clock Town: Backflip onto ledge and wait for midnight Don't collect extra rupees, and don't collect the Heart Piece. Don't make a deposit until you have 99 rupees. During the wait for midnight, don't do anything that wastes time. If you follow the above route and your execution is optimal, you should be faster than AKA by quite a few seconds. His run was well-executed, and you should definitely compare your time against his in the various sections, but he made a mistake in which he deposited only four rupees into the bank. He wasn't aware that there was a 99-rupee chest until I told him about it.

Good Luck, I'll be able to compare WIP's providing yours doesn't desync on my computer, I'm still adament that getting few extra ruppees is worth it so a the Adult wall et can be gained quicker, 3 green ruppees can be got by shooting a bubble at the center of the clock tower. Don't directly compare yours against my AVI since it has significant slowdown in terms of capture. A few tips When diving into a deku flower press "Z" on a certain frame to face any direction you want without the need for any/little turning. Flying forwards will enable you to land five frames eariler but will waste time if you need to backwalk, there is no difference between flying forwards or backwards in terms of speed. Deku backwalking is the fastest for of movement followed by spinning then side stepping although side steping is faster on slopes. I make the mistake before I talk to the mask sales for the first time because I side step insteas of spin to the door. Another annoying thing is that the game is permantley stored when you first create the file so it'll remain when you start the new movie, so you have to delete it again. Don't worry about what the route and tricks are and how to do them, we'll coach all the way to the end in relation to that matter.
