Obviously, Yautja. Deku backwalking is fastest for the first cycle since there is no other choice. Speed: Supersliding > Goron rolling >> Backwalking * Superslide only works best for very long, straight portions. * Goron rolling works well for twisting passages of moderate length. * Backwalking is good for short distances. I disagree about getting any extra rupees in the first cycle. Depositing them takes time. Plus, when you reach Great Bay Coast, the pot-breaking minigame yields 90 rupees for every few seconds -- that's guaranteed to be faster than trying to manipulate single-digit rupees at a time.

No, the fastest form of movement is supersliding or goron rolling.
I think he meant that as the fastest way to travel as a Deku Scrub in segment 1.

I know AKA knows what is fastest, but I would imagine his post being confusing to people who aren't familiar with the game and all it's tricks.

Waiting for a Wii until midnight must be really boring for campers, too. Just kidding. I dunno. If desynch problems don't cause too much trouble, Mukki can try to incorporate something funny or interesting into the run, but not at the expense of time. Traveling to another area or performing any action that causes a text box to pop up will slow things down, so it's pretty much restricted to South Clock Town.

He could write something on the walls with Deku saliva, I guess. Magic permitting, of course.

He's going to need all the magic he has for later, since Goron rolling really eats it up quickly. Climbing the invisible ladders to Goron Graveyard needs to be done without the Lens. The exact path can be memorized.

OK well, assuming that magic isn't replenished after he gets the ocarina back, I would still rather see something during the minute or two, followed by having to pick up a magic jar at some point, rather than sitting around at the door waiting for it to open.

It's not replenished if I recall recorrectly. Entertainment doesn't need to involve expending time. If all else fails, he could perform some acrobatics. =P There are magic jars in the grass on Termina Field, but that will require some luck manipulation.

I tried a run of this up to the Lens of Truth, and it desynced in about 10 seconds. Is there any way to fix it (not this specific desync, but to stop it from desyncing in general)? If not, this could take a long time and be very tedious.

The path is already memorized in the SDA movie. And he also preserves the magic meter by activating/disbanding the lens quickly. We'll help you along the way, good luck and may desynchs be damned!

The game will definitely desync if there is a save file in file 1. That's probably what happend.

I've just got into clocktown. Now how much i beat AKA by depends because imunsure of exactly where he stopped input. I exit the last screen of text before gaining control on frame 33249. AKA's movie finishes on frame 33299. AKA, you said your movie went up to the last text before gaining control. Did you stop input after pressing the final input on this final box, or was it on the box before finishing up on the final box. Anyway, at the moment i should be 50 frames ahead at least. I'm very pleased with this as it means a highly optimised start to the run. I will try and encode an AVI for tomorrow before progressing. Let's just hope the desyncs are merciful when they come...

This must be pretty good if you beat my pre-clock town section by 2.5 seconds. EDIT: I just re-checked my movie and the last Tatl check box disappears on frame 33347, so Mukki's either been very generous to me or both of us. This is refering to the line "Go to the shrine near the north gate. You'll find the great fairly in there"

Did you skip the Z-targeting text? Maybe that's the reason?

This is just my estimate as i haven't seen AKA's movie. The A press that exits the final text box is pressed on frame 33247 and so registers on frame 33249. I tried to skip that text but the best I could do was spin onto the deku flower so that after i skipped the text all i had to do was press A to get inside. Then again my timing may be off because 2.5 seconds sounds a lot over a run that you claimed to be very well optimised. I'll record the AVI and hopefully i was right...

I've been resisting the lure of my bed to get this AVI done. I'm uploading to youtube as we speak. EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRwajNHpgTQ Looking back at this there are two things i dislike. 1) my second backwalk 2) the transition from my sidejump to spin in the tunnel after becoming a deku. I doubt that fixing these minor gripes would make even a second though, so i'm happy. Enjoy.

Whoa that was visually a lot faster than mine and near flawless as well. There are two things though 1.When you first become a deku and enter the room where you learn to use a deku flower, was spining the second time the best option as opposed to sidestepping again? 2. In the room where the old tree was, you fly for longer than needed and drop and spin into the tunnel, is that faster as compared to what I did. Good job anyway and I hope this game is friendly to you desync wise, I experienced my first one in Stock Pott Inn.

Nah I got it. It's a little weird, earlier it just brings a white page completely full of text... The vid was great... one thing I have noticed is that side hopping up an incline is not as fast as in OoT with link, perhaps even slower than normal backwalking/spinning. I don't know though, visually it looked slower.

Why is Tael yellow, when he should be purple? Or is that bitch Tatl yellow, and Tael's purple looks like an off pink?

Tatl is normally white, and Tael is purple, but here yeah it's yellow/pink in the AVI, emulator color problem.
