I must say I loved this segment. All the little things made this entertaining and optimal at the same time. and for those that hate holding Tab when fast forwarding... set the speed to 1000%, it'll go as fast as holding Tab but it's much smoother, so it's not painful to watch or hold down any buttons.

I was playing the movie in fast-forward from the beginning, and around the halfway point, I stupidly adjusted the playback speed, causing a desynch. (Note that this is NOT the author's fault -- for some reason, recordings for this game easily desynch if one adjusts the speed in mid-play.) I'll give it another go on Monday. That was a half-hour down the drain...darn it. We definitely need three bottles because the time needed for additional trips to Pirates' Fortress and Pinnacle Rock is simply too much. I've been thinking if the beaver bottle could possibly be faster than the ranch bottle. The world record for both races combined is around 2'45" (20 rings; 25 rings), which is slightly more than the time needed to guard Romani Ranch from 2:30 a.m. until sunrise. However, we also consider that (1) the beaver races are not frame-perfect and could be further optimised; (2) the Milk Road is rather out of the way; (3) the Powder Keg skip requires quite a few explosives; (4) the "practice round" for guarding the ranch takes at least a half-minute (unless there's a way to skip that); and (5) after obtaining the ranch bottle, we need to get rid of the milk, whereas the beavers provide an empty container.

When that point in the run arrives I'll test out both options. Personally, I hope it is the ranch bottle because I should be able to make the alien invasion quite entertaining.

you don't have to do the practice round at all. That only starts by talking to the girl (romani?). The aliens start coming at 2:30 and you defend it until 5:15, that's all you have to do.

Even better: You don't need to arrive until about 3:00 or so, as you only need to get there before one gets to the barn. That could be very interesting, actually, as Mukki could arrive with only a few frames to spare if timed right. However, the Beaver race bottle has a distinct advantage in that it can be gotten at any time in the cycle, while the Ranch bottle has a very small time window. If the ranch bottle comes out to be incompatible with the route (unlikely, but there is a small possiblity), the Beaver race bottle will have to be substituted for it.

The aliens don’t converge on the barn until slightly after 3:45, so you don’t need to reach to the ranch until 3:35-3:45.

Will the Alien Cutscene still show up if you arrive just before one hits the barn? Hello Dragorn :D

Nope, that cutscene only plays at 2:30, so if you show up at the ranch later than that, you'll skip it.

if you get there too late, the inverted song of time could be used to get there exactly when needed. if you get there way too early, then the beaver would have to be the way to go :/ edit: fixed

*Inverted Song of Time. The Song of Double Time jumps to the next sunrise/sunset. The latest time to collect the third bottle is after Snowhead/Woodfall and before Pirates' Fortress (second visit), Pinnacle Rock, and Great Bay. So we'll see how it goes, and make adjustments to the plan as necessary. Hello there, Dragorn.

I was just doing attempt for that segment in my run and found that the latest you can arrive is somewhere between 3:25 and 3:30. At somewhere around 3:35 they took the barn.

You need to beat the aliens in a humiliating, entertaining and awesome way, if nothing else than the fact that they scared the crap out of me when I played as a kid, and deserved to be punished for doing so. my 2 cents.

For me, it happened at 3:50 a.m., though I was at the ranch since 2:30 a.m. I'll try again outside the ranch to see if that makes a difference. If not, I wonder if this could be manipulated to get the latest time possible.

It would be really neat if you could manipulate them to stay away long enough so that you don't have to shoot any.

Ya, its around 3:50. I was estimating from the fact that I was at the ranch at 3:25. I had slowed down time in my head when i made that estimate, I forgot how much faster regular time is. Edit: Can someone tell me what order to shoot the aliens? I thought I took care of them all and they still took the barn.

No, you wouldn't just stand around there waiting, you'd do a different part of the route and arrive there just as they disappear to collect your bottle.

there is no order. you probably weren't paying attention, and one snuck in from behind. Also, they move slower when time itself is slowed down, which makes it easier to not miss one. in normal/sped up time, they move faster, making it way more likely that one sneaks in form behind and steals the cow.

Ya, I did the ranch successfully, finally. Does anyone know why the goron race is so random/inconsistent? I've won with a time of about 1:30, and lost with a time of 1:09... ???

It is very inconsistent. In fact, I believe the current world record time (1'06"xx IIRC; please check speedrunwiki) was a losing race.

Actually, if we arrived too early, we could play the SoDT before 6 p.m. Day 1, though that'd require a good bit of backtracking unless we were able to somehow compute the difference in advance... We need to figure out which bottle's faster first, and if it is indeed the ranch bottle, then hopefully we can work this out somehow. EDIT: If my above explanation was unclear...say that we arrive at the ranch two Terminian hours early. We'd play the Song of Double Time at 4 p.m. to fast forward to 6 p.m. But we do this only if the ranch bottle is indeed faster factoring in the whole process of obtaining it, including traveling to the ranch and selling/drinking the milk later.

Hmm... That would work. But I don't think Mukki's going to like the idea of having to go back and redo the entire night of the first day if this is necessary.

Ugh, it desynched again at the same place (around frame 96,000 in West Clock Town) and this time I honestly did not touch the computer. I'd assume Mukki was heading for the Trading Post, but instead he talks to one of the Bomber kids and never exits the dialogue... I was playing from the very beginning using the same plugin setup as Mukki.

It doesn't matter what your playing speed is, it'll have no affect on whether the game is going to sync or not in a certain place. There has been a solution many pages back that so far has worked for everybody whose tried it. I used to experience that exact same problem as well.

What are the chances of me having to backtrack to do the SoDT? I'd quite like to try and progress as I haven't played in a while, but there is no point if I'll have to go back.

Well, first we need to confirm that the ranch bottle is indeed faster. I'll try running the .m64 again tonight.
