The question is whether you like hand-whisked or machine-whisked cakes. The recipe might be the same, and the result tastes the same, but one requires more work than the other. We're not demonstrating how we can bake cakes - we're concentrating on baking delicious cakes :) But prejudices kept the kitchen machinery away for a long time. People were thinking that since there was less hand work involved, it must taste somehow more mechnical, or something. (Btw have I seen this discussion already somewhere? :P )

I think Speedruns are Movies, where you can see all of the Game, and TimeAttacks are only, maybe, one level in a good time. @Bisqwit: On www.microsoft.com you can download the program named "Windows Media Encoder" - You can record every program on a videofile with it, i hope i could help you, for making some videos on other system's, it's a great tool. Doesn't sound like "with everything" to me then.

Nice finding. Had I known about it, I wouldn't have written xgetimage. But since I've written it, I'm using it. Except with Famtasia, because with Famtasia there are other better solutions currently.

No, a speedrun is a run through the game as fast as possible without using any aids not normally available in the game (even though sometimes it's ok to eg. make the speedrun in a level-by-level basis, as most QdQ speedruns are made; you can think of it as making a quicksave between levels, but anything else being forbidden; the quicksave between levels is the only feature not provided by the game itself which is allowed). A timeattack is also a run through the game as fast as possible, but any aid you can use (eg. provided by an emulator) is allowed to make a perfect run. These aids typically include slowing down the emulation, free quicksaving/rerecording, autofire, etc.

Quake has a quicksave button. It's one of the F keys.

Warp - that's the convention mainly in use here, but otherwise the more general definitions are that a speedrun completes the entire game and a timeattack focuses on a subset of the game, as Spawn indicated. Time attack is a Japanese term.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

True. I borrowed it from the text in the beginning of moSMB3.wmv, which was most probably encoded by a Japanese fellow.
