I dont think thats quite in keeping with the spirit of the site. I dont think an unoptimized movie should be submitted just because it shows off a trick

This game is impossible to hex edit. Any attempts to do so will result in a desynch, whether it be in the next level or 50 levels later.
Why is that? What happens, exactly, if that's attempted?

oh dear god this game is agonizingly random from the position of the enemies to their color to the graphical patterns of the flowers on the ground to the color the platforms and so much more even implementing a little hex editing will not guarantee full synchronization for more than a single level (I have never successfully hexed more than one entire level before) in fact, back when I had just finished world 3, at the end of 3-7 I had to hex-fix synchronize the timing of the fish with a jump (this was unnoticed until AFTER I completed 3-8) and it miraculously worked and played back perfectly all the way through 3-8, until the entrance to 4-1, where the A button was pressed a frame too early on the world map...all with the exact same frame count as the unedited version so you see, timing is not the only factor of randomness in YI
..... And that's why our beloved spez isn't around anymore. This game killed him :/

Argh. That sounds pretty frustrating. It sucks to not be able to do the game's levels individually.

There are actually at least three different warps you can take from the level selection screen: - press Left+Right: warps depending on number of coins - press Right, then Left+Right on the next frame: warps depending on number of red coins - Press Right, then Left, then Left+Right on the next frame: warps depending on ????? (maybe the RNG) I have sometimes been started at a midpoint ring instead of at the level's beginning, so there might be a better warp available than the one to the start of 6-8. Going to the glitched-title 1-1 is better than going to the real 1-1 because you skip any messages and Start+Select can be used to exit the level instead of dying.

I probably don't move optimally in the beginning but I don't feel like doing it all over again. For column 1 it's fortunately the number of coins that determine the level you go to. So you just have to pick up 68 coins. There could be other levels one could try first instead of 1-1 where it's easier to get coins. 2-4, 3-8 and 6-4 aren't available. Getting 23, 24, 35, 36, 47, 48, 59 or 60 coins just take you to 1-1 with a messed up title.
Dang you beat me to it. I'd be delighted to 100% optimize it. Just so I don't mess anything up: all I have to do is get 68 coins as fast as possible in the intro world and 1-1? Or can those 68 coins be anywhere?

Also, I was wondering, is there any time-saving value in ending a level by hitting the end "ring" at the lowest possible point, or does the game just make up for the extra falling time anyway? This is a general question about the game, by the way; not related to HHS' video.
Yes, as seen in my any% 1-1 (which ironically now serves no purpose) I saved 5 frames from touching the very bottom of the roulette circle. There's other little frame savers I found when watching the published run on my iPod like once every day for the past 3 weeks.

It seems to only work for the intro and 1-1. But why would you want to go to a different level when going through those two parts is the fastest route?

This is why I was asking. But intro/1-1 seems optimal anyways, since it has tons of coins everywhere.

Yes, 1-1 is great as it has many easy coins at the beginning. I wonder if there is a faster way to get up to the coins without having to use the question mark cloud. 12 coins take you back to the intro level, by the way. When you press right, left and then left+right, the level you warp to depends on the screen where you last entered a pipe.

I heard that a 100% TAS is being worked on currently. Is it being completely redone, or are they picking up where Spezzafer left off?

On Baxter's homepage: "Doesn't seem like Spezzafer will finish his 100% wip of this run. It was totally awesome though, and there should definately be a 100% run of this game. I plan on starting over from the beginning. By starting over, I'll be able to get to know the game really well, while still being able to compare with Spezzafer's wip, and I also might be able to save some time here and there (you'll never know). Do note that I won't start this run untill most of the movies listed above are done."

It might have been better if I hadn't put that up so early... I still plan on doing it, but I want to finish several other TASes first (arkanoid, mega man 5 and zelda second quest with morrison). So it will take quite some time before I would get started. I don't want to 'claim' this TAS, so if anyone wants to try it, then please do.

I wish you luck ComicalFlop. Who knows. If you complete the 100% TAS, maybe it will inspire Spezzafer to try and beat it. :3 I am sure your TAS will be as perfect as possible. I like all of your 100% TASes. ;3

Um. Maybe Baxter, maybe Arne_the_great, or maybe someone else would be the one doing it, not me. But I'm flattered that you think so.

Haha, yeah, no worries. No more YI for me ever again. Apparently, in this game I suck at launching eggs and using Yoshi's tongue to collect them again. (you can tell in the any% 1-1 I posted; you can see I was struggling to keep that egg by my side towards the end, and wrote it off as "adding entertainment".)

Will the extra levels be done 100% as well? That would require a reset at some point after beating bowser.

I'm guessing yes (seeing as there was discussion of when/how to do them, and that they are done at SDA too), and a reset is no problem, 1.43 v10 (or the v9 patch I used for DKC2) and 1.51 both handle it. But of course, you'd be silly to use 1.51.

I personally love playing this game, and have beaten it a few times. Just never got 100% in every level though. The 100% TAS will teach me how. :3

This has been discussed a gazillion times, there's no need to reset.

You can hit start immediately before Bowser's defeat (ie.one frame before you can no longer bring up the pause screen), close the pause screen and hit start+select at exactly the same time as soon as the screen starts to reappear. You'll exit the last castle and appear on the world map, with the Extra 6 and Bonus 6 unlocked (based on the assumption that you have 100 score on the levels).

Go through walls Can be handy, and maybe the method can be used in different settings

Is it, per chance, the same glitch that was mentioned some time ago by Arne and featured later in this quote: <Arne_The_Great> Comicalflop, I may TAS it, I found it very interesting when I found some new boost things and how to get inside walls (maybe as in VERY hard) <Comicalflop> get inside walls? is there any game that YOU can't get inside the walls of lol? <AnotherGamer> Not many games have a place called "walls of lol" ?

I do not think so. From what I remember, Arne described pushing through walls when running vertically up walls as Baby Mario. This movie is done with Yoshi, and banks on being pulled against the wall and tapping left frantically.
